Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. invites a Coop/Intern in mechanical engineering to join our Atlantic Canada Buildings team in Dartmouth.

You will work under experienced Engineers on tasks ranging from construction drawings to presentation materials, gaining hands‑on exposure across education, transit, healthcare, and civic sectors. We welcome a candidate who can sketch concepts, develop designs, and collaborate with project teams.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a mechanical engineering program at college or university.
  • Experience with CAD/3D modeling is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate in a multi‑discipline team.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets sketches, drawings, codes, and building programs to support design.
  • Supports project team in developing design and construction documentation.
  • Assists in developing design through sketches, physical/digital models, diagrams, massing studies, and visual formats.
  • Assists in researching concepts, benchmarks, materials, typologies, and precedents.

Job description

As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands‑on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success.

Your Opportunity

You will work on tasks with close guidance and direction from experienced Engineers. This is a co-op student role. We are looking for someone with the flexibility to take on a range of tasks from helping on construction drawings to developing presentation material. We work in the education, transit, healthcare and civic sectors – we’re interested in someone who wants to take on a variety of work.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts basic interpretations of sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.

  • Supports project team in development of design and construction documentation.

  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, physical models, digital models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.

  • Assists in research of concept, benchmarks, materials, typology, and precedents.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience with the following software would be considered an asset: Revit, AutoCad, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft, rendering software.

  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

  • To participate and collaborate in project team setting.

  • To engage in creative and critical thought.

  • To interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.

  • To communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written).

Education and Experience
  • Enrolled in a mechanical engineering program in college or university

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
