Job description

Communities everywhere share the need for clean water. And as they work to meet that need, they’re facing new, more complex challenges every day. Our water professionals collaborate to contribute innovative ideas, guided by scientific rigor and a vision for sustainable growth. Every day, we’re helping communities improve, reuse, and protect our world’s most precious resource.

Join our team to deliver transformational projects that will benefit future generations. Grow with us, H2O+U.

Our Water sector, which brings together many of the world’s top engineers and scientists, sees water a bit differently—as a single holistic system rather than as unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. We use this perspective to help communities tap into water’s potential. Throughout the life cycle of capture, use, reuse, and discharge, our team optimizes every facet of a water system.

Whether a project calls for planners, designers, construction managers, or facility operators, we have the right experts to provide creative, yet practical, water solutions. Through our cost-effective strategies, we are helping communities increase their water efficiency and protect their water resources for future generations. Join our team as we create new ways to tap into water’s vast potential.

Your Opportunity:

Stantec is a dynamic, people-centered environment that has been recognized by Forbes as one of the world’s best employers. Stantec has also been ranked as one of the most sustainable companies in the world by Corporate Knights. Those achievements, along with our team of brilliant specialists, have helped the Water group to thrive in meeting the water supply and treatment needs for our clients in Mining, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Power, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and the Public Sector. We are seeking a Mechanical CAD/BIM Technician to join our team.

Our team regularly collaborates on projects across North America. The successful candidate should be comfortable working and collaborating on a variety of different projects with team members across North America.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self‑motivated team player that is excited about taking on a new challenge. The successful candidate may be based out of one of our Prairies offices, located in Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba. We also offer flexible hybrid work from home/office arrangements.

Your Responsibilities as a Mechanical CAD/BIM Technician:
  • Prepare engineering drawings for municipal, commercial, and industrial projects with Revit.
  • Ensure Revit, CAD Standards, Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures are followed during drawing planning and production.
  • Understand and adhere to Stantec and client standards.
  • Coordinate project drawings with project managers, technical staff, and others.
  • Prepare presentation graphics and report figures.
  • Generate piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Develop 2D or 3D piping plans, models, and arrangements starting from P&IDs that schematically show the system and piping concepts.
  • Prepare 3D models of equipment and piping systems.
  • Create and understand custom blocks (families) using Revit software.
  • Complete model reviews and collaborate with other technical disciplines.
  • Ensure that the projects' needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications:
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Effective communication/collaborative skills for working with single or multi‑discipline projects, along with excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities and a willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Highly organized, have significant attention to detail, able to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Able to consistently produce high quality 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Proficient with Autodesk products: Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD P&ID and/or Plant 3D.
  • The ability to interpret P&IDs to develop corresponding piping plans.
  • Proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office365 and Adobe Acrobat Pro or Bluebeam REVU, and Excel.
  • Experience with process mechanical systems, wet infrastructure, and structural design associated with water and wastewater treatment plants and collection and distribution systems.
  • Government of Canada and RCMP Security Clearances.
Education and Experience
  • Certificate or diploma from a recognized post‑secondary institution.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with civil/municipal, urban development and water resources disciplines and/or an education background in these areas.
