POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic provides a variety of maintenance services including installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining equipment, machinery and building systems in proper working order.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Building Maintenance Mechanic (Community College 2 year Certificate Course), or equivalent Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certificate of Qualification in a relevant mechanical/technical trade i.e. Millwright, Stationary Engineering, etc.
- 2-years experience/training relevant to the mechanical/technical trades
- Ability to make calculations for installation and repair of equipment, and to assist other trades as necessary
- Aptitude for working with things and objects, and servicing various equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and machinery typical to environment, with skill in welding and hydraulics
- Verbal and reading skill is necessary to read and understand schematic drawings and technical manuals, pertaining to operation and maintenance of equipment
- Must be capable of lifting heavy loads as well as constant standing, walking, and climbing ladders
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to check and repair mechanical devices such as pumps, conveyor systems, tube system, plumbing systems, etc
- Perform a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance duties throughout the complex; clean and service equipment as necessary
- Uses hand and power tools and testing equipment
- Will work both inside and outside building
- Assist tradespeople and other workers in completing their tasks as requested
- Adhere to all safety regulations and ensures tools and work area are maintained to standard
- Participates as required in Hospital's Contingency plans for emergencies
- Comply with workload measurement systems
- Record time and material expended, assists in making cost estimates, time estimates and material lists
