Job summary

Calgary Co-op is hiring a Meat Wrapper to join a customer‑driven team in our store at Calgary. You will handle meat wrapping, stocking, displays, and price integrity while ensuring a clean, safe department and friendly customer service.

The role requires Grade 9 or equivalent education, retail experience, and fluency in English. Training includes health, safety, and food safety standards, with opportunities for growth within the co‑op network.

Qualifications

  • Grade 9 or equivalent education or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Related retail experience and customer service.
  • Must be fluent in English (CLBA 5+).

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and maintain positive customer relations.
  • Wrap meat, stock, display and facing in an organized manner.
  • Ensure proper display presentation and stock levels; maintain cleanliness of the department.
  • Follow safety, food safety, and environmental regulations and policies.

Job description

The Meat Wrapper is responsible to ensure that customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. TheMeat Wrapperposition reports directly to the Meat Supervisor/Meat Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, request and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.

Plans and performs all aspects of meat wrapping functions including but not limited to, stocking, displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.

Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages, and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity.

Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure a neat and organized department. Duties include hosing and sanitizing the department. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean of cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage.

Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.

Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools. Reports repair requirements to the Meat Supervisor, Meat or Duty Manager.

Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.

Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing/verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.

Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.

While assisting a customer, provided they have been trained, can use a knife and use the meat grinders to provide any ground product to a customer should a meat cutter be unavailable.

Grade 9 or acceptable combination of education and experience

Related retail experience, including the provision of customer service

Must be fluent in English (CLBA - Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment score of 5 or higher)
