Job summary

Food Basics in Hamilton, Ontario, is seeking a Meat Clerk for an existing permanent part-time, unionized position. The starting hourly wage is 16.60 CAD, with potential increases based on knowledge, skills, education and experience, within the collective agreement wage scale.

You will unload deliveries, stock displays, rotate stock, ensure freshness, follow food safety guidelines, assist customers, and keep areas clean.

Qualifications

• Able to lift 30–50 pounds.
• Retail experience is an asset.
• Flexible shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unload meat deliveries, ensuring products are stored properly.
• Stock shelves, coolers, and displays with various meat products.
• Rotate stock to ensure freshness.
• Inspect meat products for quality and freshness, removing items that don’t meet standards.
• Monitor temperature in coolers and displays for proper storage.
• Follow food safety guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure hygiene.
• Reduce the price on items near expiry.
• Help customers locate meat products and provide recommendations.
• Label packages with product information, weights and prices as required.
• Update signage for promotions, sales, and seasonal items.
