Position Summary

The role of Regional Operations Controller is to support the regional operations teams by providing timely and accurate data with insight, manage and maximize return of financial assets by ensuring all financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems are followed, develop financial budgets and forecasts, and report monthly on financial results to regional and corporate leadership, identify opportunities to increase profitability and develop strategies to implement those strategies. The controller will work closely with the Regional Leadership Team, Corporate Finance Team, Financial Shared Services Team, and Multiple Corporate Leadership Teams.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the company safety program and be responsible for all safety requirements.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Completing month end financial packages in a timely manner as required by Colas Canada Inc.
  • Protects assets through internal controls.
  • Monitor and control financial conditions by conducting audits; and providing information to external and internal auditors, when required.
  • Prepare and monitor semi-annual budgets to establish schedules, collect, analyze, and consolidate financial data and recommend actions. communicate with management and formalize and present the budget to Colas Canada Inc.
  • Achieve cash budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Provide status updates on the financial condition of the region when requested.
  • Prepare special reports when required.
  • Comply with federal, provincial, and other legal requirements.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge to excel in the role.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Management of all Subsidiary Finance employees.
  • Adhering to Legal and Human Resource requirements including upholding the Code of Ethics, performance management, and employee discipline and accountability.
  • Alignment with Shared Services Group, including frequent communication with the Vice President, Finance and Corporate Controller, communication of new or updated processes when requested, and monitoring and enforcing procedures and policies.
  • Support Subsidiary Operational Management to add value in operational and financial decision making.
  • Facilitate a winning team based on provided metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP, Finance.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of accepted accounting standards, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Experience within a construction or manufacturing industry would be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage, and audit systems and processes.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Outlook/ Excel/Word/PowerPoint), and Adobe.
  • Experience in JD Edwards, OnBase, and other ERP systems would be considered an asset
  • Adaptability to quickly learn new software.
  • Ability to make timely decisions on critical issues after appropriate assessment and analysis.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong internal and external interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative, and team-based environment.
  • High level of adaptability to a changing work environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with an Accounting Major.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation or recent successful pass on The Common Final Examination (CFE).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
