Job Title: Asphalt Facility Manager
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Expected Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: Calgary Facility – 7404 30th Street Southeast, Calgary, AB, T2C 1M8
Reporting to: Regional Operations Manager - West

The Facility Manager position is an experienced and highly motivated leadership role to manage all aspects of operations within the terminal, plus satellite terminals and assets where applicable. This role is responsible for managing terminal manufacturing processes, maintenance activities, inventory control, and administrative oversight—while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental compliance. The Facility Manager coordinates movement of raw materials and finished products, manages backlog and production schedules, and maintains accurate inventory levels to support customer demand and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Manufacturing

  • Oversee daily terminal operations including receiving, heating, blending, storage, manufacturing, and loading of asphalt products.
  • Manage production schedules in coordination with sales and logistics teams to ensure a safe and timely fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Monitor raw material inventory to ensure there is enough inventory for production with minimal carry over at the end of the season.
  • Monitor and reduce operational backlog while optimizing equipment utilization and throughput.
  • Identify process improvements to maximize efficiency and product quality.
  • Effectively forecasts future cost projections & manages lean budgets & inventory fulfilment.
  • Incorporates effective project management practices towards ensuring:
  • A) Year-round facility housekeeping needs;
  • B) A repair & maintenance program aligned with KPIs;
  • C) Workforce planning, minimizing overtime where possible;
  • D) Adherence to 6S, HSEQ and ISO requirements.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
  • Maintain accurate tracking of raw materials, finished goods, and consumables.
  • Oversee cycle counts, reconciliations, and system updates to ensure real-time inventory accuracy.
  • Collaborate with procurement and logistics to balance supply and demand, avoid inventory outages, and minimize excess inventory where feasible.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting of all inventory movements and adjustments.
  • Coordinate with the internal trucking department the inbound and outbound transportation of raw materials and finished products.
  • Supervise loading/unloading operations and ensure all transport meets regulatory and quality standards.
Maintenance & Engineering
  • Lead the planning and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs within the facility.
  • Ensure reliability of terminal infrastructure including tanks, pumps, heating systems, and automation equipment.
  • In conjunction with Engineering teams, assure coordinated inspections, repairs, and upgrades are completed in compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) Compliance
  • Champion a safety-first culture; enforce company HSE policies and ensure compliance with OHS, ISO, transportation and other local regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings, training, audits, and emergency response drills. Update and maintain all emergency response plans.
  • Oversee proper handling of hazardous materials and adherence to spill prevention protocols.
  • Complete initial incident investigations.
  • Ensure all non-conformances are registered in Enablon.
  • Ensure that all testing procedures and requirements are being completed. Ensure all sample results are logged. Ensure any failing results and formula changes are communicated to the Technical Services department.
Administration & Leadership
  • Manage terminal budgets, operational KPIs, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate terminal staff; support ongoing training and development.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of operations, inventory, maintenance, quality and safety performance.
  • Ensure all Inventory variances are tracked and explained.
  • Ensure the timely issuing, processing and accuracy of all invoices, purchase, work and production orders, (e.g., repairs).
  • Create and manage shift schedules to meet production goals, minimize downtime, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Work with HR to determine the hiring requirements at the beginning of each season to ensure the facility is fully staffed.
  • Act as the point of contact for corporate leadership, regulatory agencies, and third-party vendors.
About you

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical degree or diploma, Power Engineering certification an asset.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing or process environment /terminal operations and oversight, preferably in petroleum, chemical, asphalt or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success managing production schedules, inventory control, and backlog reduction.
  • Strong understanding of HSE regulations and best practices in terminal or plant environments.
  • Experience working with terminal automation systems, ERP software [JDE or similar], and inventory management tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in industrial settings with exposure to petroleum products, elevated temperatures, and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, walk on tank tops, and lift up to 50 lbs while wearing required PPE.
Work Environment
  • On-site, full-time position with occasional after-hours or weekend requirements during peak periods or maintenance shutdowns.
  • Some travel may be required to other terminals or company locations.
