The Mechanical Auxiliaries Design Technician produces technical drawings and 2D/3D models for piping systems and industrial equipment based on engineering input. Responsibilities include selecting standard components, preparing material lists, verifying design accuracy and compliance, and ensuring manufacturability. The technician contributes to design improvements, updates schedules, and enters data into management systems.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares assembly and detailed piping drawings based on instructions from an engineer;
  • Prepares process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID);
  • Makes the selection of standard piping components;
  • Prepares general equipment layout drawings;
  • Prepares 3D models and 2D drawings from references, sketches or based on instructions from engineer or senior designer;
  • Creates drawing associated material lists;
  • Reviews drawings and material list to check for errors, that they are compliant with customer specifications and internal design standards;
  • Ensures that designs can be manufactured, are transportable and operational. As needed, propose design improvements to reduce cost and improve quality;
  • Data entry into the material resource planning system;
  • Performs drawing revisions;
  • Responsible for the execution time of his own work. Participates in schedule updates;
  • Responsible for the quality and precision of his work.

Qualifications
  • College Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience;
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a mechanical designer;
  • Good knowledge of piping, auxiliary systems, heavy mechanical equipment, welded structures, methods of manufacturing and machining as well as drafting rules and practices;
  • Strong background in 3D design;
  • Autonomous;
  • Teamwork skills;
  • Fluency in French & English;
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX, Teamcenter and SAP an asset;
  • Knowledge of hydro turbine (turbine and generator) an asset.
