Job summary

A leading energy provider in Oshawa is seeking a Materials Specialist to manage materials inventory and procurement functions. You will be responsible for purchasing, vendor relationship management, and compliance with contract specifications. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, at least 3 years of relevant experience in Supply Chain, and strong skills in interpreting technical drawings and specifications. This is an on-site position with a contract duration of up to 18 months.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results‑driven professional to join our team in the role of Materials Specialist.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Supply Chain, this position is responsible for preparing, processing and providing services and technical expertise to effectively support the management of materials inventory and the procurement transactional and contractual function.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Purchase a variety of commodities, equipment, and services, establishing and maintaining contracts and effective vendor relationships.
  • Interpret specifications, drawings, and work plans; assist in procurement strategies and documentation for major projects.
  • Conduct surveillance of manufacturers and vendors to ensure compliance with contract specifications and delivery requirements.
  • Manage materials planning, forecasting, and inventory levels to balance warehousing costs and supply continuity.
  • Coordinate the movement, pickup, and delivery of equipment and materials, resolving in‑transit issues and claims.
  • Perform customs work for import/export activities and provide consultative services on customs and related matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma plus one year of study in materials management or supply chain management.
  • A minimum 3 years of related working experience in Supply Chain.
  • Experience providing technical expertise in procurement and inventory management for an industrial setting.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and work plans.
  • Skills in managing contracts, vendor relationships, and procurement processes.
  • Knowledge of customs regulations and procedures for import/export activities.
