The Opportunity:

Our client is currently looking for a Materials Manager to join their leading manufacturing organization based in Chatham-Kent, Ontario. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for managing the materials team at the facility including shipping, receiving, inventory control, purchasing and scheduling. What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Analyzing customer requirements to ensure timely and accurate shipping and receiving activities for the facility.
  • Acting as a liaison between the organization and the customer to ensure client demands and requirements are being met. Responsible for analyzing all customer releases to create an effective production schedule and communicating this schedule to the appropriate departments.
  • Managing and overseeing the month-end and year-end closing process and all waste for the organization.
  • Managing warehouse and inventory flow in the facility.
  • Forecasting volumes for customer orders daily, monthly, and annually.
  • Responsible for managing purchases for the plant and managing the department operating budget for the materials team.
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating activities of all personnel in the Materials Department including scheduling, training and development, KPI reviews, and other people management activities.
  • Participating, supporting, and contributing to corporate management initiatives for the organization.


The Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Materials Management related functions.
  • 5+ years of experience in a materials and people management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in materials requirement planning including digital materials scheduling, inventory control, and production scheduling.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with MS Suite.
  • The ability to manage both internal team members and work externally with customers and suppliers.
  • Health and safety advocate and champion.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong customer service mindset.


Complimentary Experience:

  • Manufacturing or automotive experience would be considered a definite asset.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing principles would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in Just in Time shipping, receiving and inventory systems would be a strong asset.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with a team player attitude.
