Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Intermediate to Senior Materials Engineer to join our growing team in Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton, NB or Bedford, NS. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise in materials engineering across a wide range of projects.

Our geotechnical and materials division specializes in geotechnical and materials engineering consulting. This division of CBCL has grown to become a leading regional provider of these engineering services to the commercial, institutional, heavy industrial, transportation, municipal infrastructure, energy & utilities, and large residential sectors.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision of materials engineering consulting services for sectors such as industrial, commercial, municipal, highway, and residential projects;
  • Undertake condition assessments and materials testing of concrete structures and provide concrete repair strategies for repair and rehabilitation including structures affected by Alkali-Aggregate Reactivity (AAR);
  • Provide consulting services on:
    • Thermal control measures for mass concrete applications;
    • Shrinkage control measures to minimize cracking of concrete structures;
    • Protection of concrete structures in chemical exposure environments;
    • Preparation of technical reports, drawings, and specifications for materials engineering works; and
    • Input into CCIL laboratory certification.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • A degree in a Civil or Materials Engineering discipline with a heavy focus on construction materials (concrete, asphalt pavement, aggregates). A post-graduate degree (master’s degree or higher) would be a strong asset;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Materials Engineering field;
  • Registered P. Eng. or ability to become registered with the provincial association; and
  • Experience related to asphalt pavement mix design, pavement condition assessment, and laboratory testing of physical and volumetric properties of asphalt would be a strong asset.
