Job summary

Powell Canada Inc. is seeking a Material Handler - Shipping and Receiving based in Edmonton. The role loads and unloads materials, moves items with equipment, and ensures accurate staging and documentation for PCR/E-House processes.

You will work with supervisors and planners to meet production demands, uphold ISO practices, and maintain a safe, organized work area in a temperature-controlled facility.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum 1+ years of Material Handling experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic level computer skills in MS Office; including Excel experience.
  • Valid forklift certification with a minimum of 1-2 years’ or prior experience.
  • Overhead crane experience or certificate is considered an asset.
  • Valid CSTS 2020 certificate.
  • Pre-employment testing is required due to safety sensitive nature.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and take direction from Senior Material Handler.
  • Move materials using handcarts, forklifts, cranes or pallet jacks.
  • Prepare goods for PCR/E-House including staging and loading.
  • Ensure materials are organized and distributed correctly.
  • Remove surplus materials and return to storage or dispose.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of material and inventory.
  • Work with teams to ensure on-time material delivery.
  • Participate in safety meetings and promote safety.

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton, (EDE) location, the Material Handler - Shipping and Receiving will report to the Senior Manufacturing Supervisor. The Material Handler - Shipping and Receiving will be responsible for loading and un‑loading material, moving, handling, and organizing all incoming and outgoing materials.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Co-ordinate and take direction from Senior Material Handler
  • Perform physical movement of materials from one area to another using handcarts, forklifts, cranes or pallet jacks.
  • Prepares goods and materials for PCR/E-House department, including: staging, loading, and documentation.
  • Ensure all received materials are organized and distributed to the correct personnel or placed production areas.
  • Removes surplus material and product after tasks are complete and places back in storage or disposes in trash.
  • Monitors all shop trash and trash bins, empties or places trash into large Bin located outside.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all material and inventory supplies in the PCR/E-House production area.
  • Work with co-workers, supervisors, and planners to ensure all material is delivered on time.
  • Promote a safety culture and attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Other duties as required.

Work Authorization

Working Conditions
  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses and respirators) when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders).
Physical Requirements
  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools, such as: tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
