Powell Canada Inc., based in Edmonton, is seeking a Material Handler to load, unload, move and organize all incoming and outgoing parts and shipments within a temperature-controlled manufacturing setting. You will collaborate with the Manufacturing Supervisor to maintain accurate inventory and timely deliveries.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 0–3 years in manufacturing, and the ability to read a tape measure.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 0–3 years’ manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with switchgear units is an asset.
  • Able to read a tape measure (fractions/decimals; metric/imperial).
  • Knowledge of machines and tools (design, use, repair, maintenance).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Safety training certificates are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Move materials using carts, forklifts, cranes or pallet jacks.
  • Picks parts for shipments with accurate identification and quantity.
  • Fill kits and deliver to production as required.
  • Ensure shipments match records and invoices.
  • Prepare goods for shipment including staging and documentation.
  • Organize received materials and distribute to correct locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shipping/receiving areas.
  • Coordinate with coworkers to ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Attend safety meetings and promote a safety culture.
  • Follow standard work instructions to ensure quality.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Other duties as required.

Based out of the Electrical Division Edmonton, (EDE) location, the Material Handler will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor. The Material Handler will be responsible for loading, un‑loading, moving, handling, and organizing all incoming and outgoing parts and shipments.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform physical movement of materials from one area to another using handcarts, forklifts, cranes or pallet Jacks.
  • Picks parts /products for shipments ensuring accuracy of identification and quantity.
  • Fill kits and deliver to production as required.
  • Ensure all shipment contents are comparable to records and invoices of the order and that all material is accounted for.
  • Prepares goods for shipment, including staging, loading, and documentation.
  • Ensure all received materials are organized and distributed to the correct personnel or placed storage areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all shipping and receiving areas, storage rooms and inventory supply areas.
  • Work with co‑workers, supervisors, and planners to ensure all material is delivered on time.
  • Promote a safety culture as well as attend all safety meetings.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.
  • Ensure work area remains clean and well organized.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum education level of a High School Diploma is required.
  • Minimum 0‑3 years’ of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in Switchgear units is considered an asset.
  • Ability to read a tape measure (including conversions from fraction to decimal and conversely from decimal to fraction and metric to imperial).
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their design, use, repair and maintenance.
  • Basic computer knowledge considered and asset.
  • Prior ability or interest in building or repairing mechanical components considered an asset.
  • Safety training certificates are an asset for the position.

Work Authorization: This is a permanent position. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of hire. Immigration sponsorship is not typically available and will be considered only where supported by business needs and applicable legal requirements.

Working Conditions
  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders) and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air on or using proper lift equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking 50-300 foot distances for long periods of time with only occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as tin snips, hammer, and power tools (some vibrating), for long periods of time with frequent repetition.
