Job Summary:

About the Position:
This position is a part of our Transportation department within the Facilities Planning & Management Division at UW-Madison. The Master Technician is one of the lead technician positions at the shop. This person will be diagnosing and repairing many items that come through the shop. This position acts as a guiding knowledge to other technicians with diagnosis and repairs. They will be mostly working on heavy trucks and equipment but may have to work on smaller assets as needed. They will also go on service calls and fix equipment in the field. This position may assist with snow removal during the winter season if needed.

This position is a onsite, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM position, with no weekends. Our Transportation Department provides and maintains the tools, no need for you to provide your own!

About our Transportation Services department:
UW Transportation Services is a department within Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) on the UW-Madison campus. We serve a variety of customers with a diverse set of parking and transportation needs. Transportation Services is responsible for the coordination and administration of all transportation-related services for the UW campus community. Primary functions include the sale/management of parking permits, special event coordination, maintenance and enforcement, construction coordination, lot and booth operations, citation payments and appeals, information technology, financial, transportation planning, and development of multimodal options.

The Division of Facilities Planning& Management (FP&M) is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of UW-Madison in the university's education, research, and outreach activities. We are responsible for everything from the building projects that change the face of campus to the flowers that beautify the grounds.

Responsibilities:
Performs diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs to automotive vehicles, large engines, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, large agricultural vehicles, and related equipment to ensure effective functioning of vehicles and equipment.

  • 20% Inspects, maintains, and repairs complex parts and systems for large-engine vehicles and equipment under general supervision to ensure optimal and safe operation

  • 20% Identifies and troubleshoots complex vehicle and large-engine issues and collaborates with work unit staff to resolve issues

  • 20% Documents completed maintenance and repairs according to established policies and procedures

  • 20% Serves as a point of contact to individuals providing information and updates about vehicle and large-engine maintenance and repairs

  • 5% Retrieve stranded vehicles with roll off flat-bed tow truck

  • 5% Assist with snow removal from parking lots and vehicles and repair snow removal equipment

  • 5% Welding and fabrication

  • 5% Order parts and supplies from various vendors and communicate with customers about repairs and estimated repair times

Salary:

Depending on Qualifications
The minimum hourly rate for this position is $28.00, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. We are offering a $3,000 hiring bonus for this position.
