Job description

Are you looking for a hands-on career working with powerful mechanical systems? As a Marine Systems Mechanical Technician in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), you’ll operate and maintain the propulsion and auxiliary systems that keep ships and submarines running.

This position is available full-time or part-time or as part of our paid education program.

Overview

As a Marine Systems Mechanical Technician, your primary duties are to:

  • Read and interpret engineering sketches and drawings, including mechanical and hydraulic, pneumatic and fluid drawings
  • Calculate ship stability and identify potential problems
  • Fabricate, machine and weld parts and equipment
  • Monitor, operate and maintain the mechanical machinery for the propulsion systems, power generation and distribution systems, the ancillary systems, the auxiliary systems and the damage control systems

To be eligible to apply to the CAF, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada;
  • Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except:
    • For the Paid Education programs, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent);
    • For the Primary Reserve, you may be 16 years old (with parental consent) and must be enrolled as a full-time student;
  • Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondary IV in Québec (some jobs need higher levels of education).
Required Education

The minimum acceptable education to apply for this position is the completion of provincial requirements for Grade 10, including Grade 10 Applied Math & Grade 10 Applied Science.
