Job Title: Marine Mechanic
Job Description

As a Marine Mechanic, you will be responsible for removing and replacing engines, mechanical systems, and fluid systems of commercial vessels. You will perform TCI/CSI tasks on commercial vessels, ensuring the efficiency and longevity of these vessels. You will also install new equipment, repair cooling and lubrication systems, and maintain detailed reports. Your role requires adherence to safe work practices and a commitment to improving operations and customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Remove and replace engines, mechanical systems, and fluid systems of commercial vessels.
  • Perform TCI/CSI on commercial vessels, including Re/Re prop, shaft, cutlass bearings, packing, dripless seals, and various measurements.
  • Identify corrosion areas or wear on shafts and rudder stocks.
  • Install new and added‑on equipment.
  • Repair cooling and lubrication systems.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work.
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Work in adherence to all safe work practices, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Essential Skills
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the marine industry or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.
  • Strong safety mindset.
  • Ability to take initiative and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical capability for demanding work, including lifting, carrying, and climbing on tugboats, fishing vessels, and barges.
  • Solid interpersonal skills for effective work in a diverse environment.
  • Quality‑oriented with strong attention to detail.
  • Responsible, accountable, and dependable.
Nice to Have Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Electrical experience with 12/24/110 volt systems is an asset.
  • Previous welding and fabricating experience is an asset.
  • Confined space training is an asset.
  • Class 5 forklift ticket is an asset.

Work Environment

Work outside in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors, including on vessels on land. Reporting to the supervisor, 24/7 availability may be required. Travel to off‑site locations may be necessary. Safety equipment such as steel‑toed safety boots and safety glasses/goggles will be provided. Be prepared for overtime and hazards associated with the trade.

Job Type & Location

Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 ‑ $45.00/hr.
