Stantec is seeking to build a pool of talented professional biologists, scientists, and engineers to support our growing marine mammal science program. The programs you support will provide important information for assessing the potential effects of anthropogenic projects on marine life and will contribute to the scientific understanding of marine mammals in British Columbia. Your Capabilities and Credentials

Looking for all levels: Junior (less than 3 years), Intermediate (3 to 9 years), and Senior (10+ years)

Marine Mammal Field Technician

Technical degree or diploma in environmental science, biological sciences, or site investigation

General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies

Comfortable with living and working on a marine vessel in close quarters, in remote locations, and for 2‑3 weeks at a time

Must be a team player with a proactive and open‑minded attitude

Marine Mammal Field Crew Lead

Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, science, biology, forestry, or a related field

General knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies

Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data. Experience on marine mammal programs or prior work on vessels is an asset

Must be a good communicator, leader, and problem‑solver with a positive attitude

Comfortable with living on and directing a small team on a marine vessel in close quarters, in remote locations, and for 2‑3 weeks at a time

Intermediate and Senior Marine Mammal Biologists

Minimum bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, biology, science, forestry, or related field

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience

Knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies

Ideal candidates will have experience in any or all of the following (field‑or‑desktop‑based):

  • Distance line transect sampling (design, implementation, and analysis)

Underwater acoustics

Marine mammal studies or monitoring

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
