Blumara Corp. is a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Services company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We provide a range of design, engineering, and project management services for the Naval and Commercial Marine sectors.
We are seeking an Engineer with a background in vessel certification and classification focused on Navigation, Communications, and Seamanship systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance of critical shipboard systems with naval, regulatory, and classification standards for a new navy vessel design.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure vessel design complies with classification and certification requirements for navigation, communications, and seamanship systems.
- Coordinate certification activities for these systems with Classification Societies, Transport Canada, and naval authorities.
- Provide day-to-day support for system integration activities related to navigation and communications equipment.
- Review and perform quality control checks on deliverables related to certification and compliance.
- Support trials, inspections, and acceptance processes for navigation, comms, and seamanship systems.
- Maintain awareness of industry standards, naval regulations, and emerging technologies in ship navigation and communications.
- Represent Blumara at industry events, conferences, audits, and stakeholder meetings as necessary.
- Contribute to a productive work environment based on mutual trust and respect while carrying out all work in a safe and effective manner.
Skills and Capabilities
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical, Systems, or related field).
- Registered P.Eng. (desirable).
- Strong knowledge of navigation, communications, and seamanship systems for naval or commercial vessels.
- Experience working with Classification Society Rules, IMO/Transport Canada Regulations, and Military Standards.
- Familiarity with naval platforms and Department of National Defence (DND) projects.
- Project management skills with the ability to manage certification schedules and stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a small team environment.
- Experience working with contractors, OEM suppliers, and consultants.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain the relevant Canadian Security Clearances before commencing employment with Blumara Corp.
