Pauktuutit, as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada, has a key role to play in ensuring the use of a gender‑equality lens in policies impacting Inuit women, girls and gender‑diverse Inuit. We promote greater progress in priority areas, across health and well‑being, violence and abuse prevention, safety, and social and economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnership across government, key funders, Inuit community groups and other stakeholder organizations.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director, the Manager will lead both the day‑to‑day operations of the team within a specific portfolio and drive the initiatives to support the overall goals of the organization. The role requires considerable skill in relationship building, including the ability to develop and foster partnerships and to collaborate effectively with community groups, agencies, and other stakeholders. The manager works directly with the Director and across the policy and research team to coordinate, and manage initiatives within the portfolio.
The role collaborates with the Director to support departmental wide initiatives. Critical to the success of this role is ability to collaborate with the leadership to brings best practices, and to support planning and execution of the department plans and budgets to track and manage performance against set priorities.
Primary Responsibilities Include
- Provides leadership to the Policy & Research team and owns project and department specific work‑related supervision of the team within violence and abuse prevention and justice area.
- Provide day‑to‑day coaching, direction, and leadership to policy analysts; includes real time management or resources performance management and development, facilitating team meetings, escalation resolution and response.
- Manage resources, processes, and procedures to ensure effective management of workplans, budgets and on time delivery.
- Monitor expenditures within approved budgets for all violence and abuse prevention and justice files.
- Maintain relevant financial documentation for relevant projects in compliance with approved internal financial procedures and controls.
- Works with Policy Analysts to coordinate unit reporting with input from various staff members, ensuring quality of information and format for presentation to key stakeholders including senior leadership and funders.
- Acts as a central resource to the Policy and Research team on the violence and abuse prevention and justice files and collaborates across the organization to create presentations or speaking notes, including strategic planning, committees and advisory groups, partnership meetings, conferences.
- Acts as the central resource to the Policy and Research team on the violence and abuse prevention and justice files to track deliverables.
- supports the Director in tracking the strategic plan updates, organizational goals, and objectives
- Supports report and proposal management including reading/ editing some of the reports or proposals. And partners with the Finance Business Planning and Enablement Manager to ensure consistency and alignment to broader organizational needs
- Responds to requests that fall outside of Pauktuutit’s core mandate areas of Health, Socio‑Economic Development; Violence & Abuse Prevention and Justice, to gather information, develop a position in conjunction with the Director and Finance Business Planning and Enablement, in order to help the Director, bring forward potential to the Leadership Team.
- Supports process management to enable efficiency and effectiveness in the Policy and Research team and ensures collaboration between Policy and Research and the rest of the organization. Organizes and creates standards, best practices across Policy and Research.
- Supports the Director of Policy and Advocacy on an as needed basis including providing support to the policy and research business during short term absences.

Administration:

Education:
- A university or college degree in business planning, community development, sociology, gender studies, and/ or other equivalent combination of education and recent relevant work
Experience:
- 5+ years of prior experience in Policy and Research, planning, reporting &
- Experience leading teams
- Experience preferably in a similar environment and preferably a not-for-profit organization
- Experience as a policy generalist with general understanding of Pauktuutit’s priority mandates of
- Health; Socio‑Economic Development; Violence and Abuse Prevention and Justice.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships within a tight‑knit team and build trusted relationships across all levels – stakeholders include, departmental leadership, consultants, funders, and community interest groups
- Self‑directed with high business acumen, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
- Experience working with Inuit and knowledge current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit is an asset
- Strong relationship building skills with personal credibility and high impact communication and presentation skills, with extensive experience with senior executive interaction.
- Strong project management; consultation; resource planning and budgeting skills
- Ability to travel to remote communities as required
