Key Responsibilities

The Manager, Underwriting Performance & Oversight plays a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the organization’s underwriting authority and product governance frameworks. This includes overseeing the Service Company Agreement (SCA) renewal, supporting compliance activities, granting and reviewing underwriting authorities, overseeing audit and compliance reporting, and driving continuous improvement, particularly through automation and data-driven insights.

You will deliver essential KPI reporting, manage product governance throughout the full lifecycle, coordinate underwriting initiatives, and curate policy wordings and collaboration tools. As a core member of governance committees, you will ensure clear communication, structured decision-making, and consistent adherence to standards across the organization.

This role also supports underwriting leadership in building performance monitoring frameworks, supporting business planning, conducting quarterly reviews, and ensuring alignment with international underwriting standards.

Job Summary

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Underwriting Leadership Team as a dynamic leader responsible for elevating the efficiency, performance, and governance of the underwriting function in Canada.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Underwriting, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Canadian Senior Leadership Team, as well as international partners including the Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer (OCUO) and Compliance. This role is ideal for an experienced underwriter who thrives in a focused, innovative environment and is passionate about finding smarter, more effective ways of working and demonstrates leadership strengths.

Position Overview:
Underwriting Oversight
  • Oversee the national Underwriting Authority framework, including:
    • Managing the annual SCA renewal and supporting compliance activities
    • Granting and promoting underwriters’ authorities in partnership with Product Line Leaders
    • Leading annual authority reviews and attestation processes
    • Managing monthly exception, breach, and peer review reporting
    • Leading internal and external audit processes
    • Managing compliance reporting and related documentation
  • Drive ongoing process improvements, including automation and system enhancements
  • Promote data-driven decision-making across underwriting
  • Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual KPIs for Underwriting and Field Leadership
Governance
  • Lead the Product Governance framework, ensuring strong collaboration with Compliance
  • Oversee product governance from inception to end-of-life, including tools, processes, and documentation
  • Manage compliance structures and build a systematic approach to product governance
  • Coordinate the Underwriting Initiatives Framework and Impact Assessment workflows
  • Serve as custodian of policy wordings, translations, and collaboration with technical teams
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation within governance processes
  • Participate as a key member of governance committees
  • Curate national Microsoft collaboration tools to ensure efficient and consistent communication
Underwriting Performance
  • Support the development of a performance monitoring framework enabling profitable growth
  • Partner with leadership and Portfolio Analytics to monitor key underwriting metrics
  • Support Quarterly Business Reviews and track action items
  • Contribute to annual business planning and communication of underwriting strategy
  • Ensure technical KPIs are collected and monitored in alignment with international standards
  • Liaise with global underwriting performance teams to maintain consistency and adherence

  • Ability to translate complex ideas for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proven experience planning and running governance meetings and working groups
  • Financial Industry experience considered an asset
  • Business Analyst or Project Management credentials considered assets

Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field is preferred
  • Several years of experience in underwriting operations, governance, or performance management
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel/PowerPoint preferred)
  • Experience with underwriting tools, governance workflows, or data analytics systems is an asset
