Position Summary

The Manager, Transportation Operations oversees all the activities of the operations team, including dispatchers, drivers, and supporting staff, to ensure the safe, efficient and timely delivery of all shipments. This role provides leadership, guidance and operational oversight to ensure all transportation activities are executed accurately, safely, and in alignment with company objectives and customer expectations.

The position manages real‑time operational challenges such as breakdowns, accidents, or call‑ins while maintaining service continuity and supporting overall regional transportation performance.

Location: Mississauga, Ontario

Dayshift: Dayshift, Monday to Friday

What you will do
  • Providing supervision and leadership to the dispatch team, including planning and assigning daily workloads to ensure efficient execution of deliveries.
  • Coordinate the flow of inbound and outbound freight, maintaining awareness of daily priorities and weekly transportation targets.
  • Recruit, train, coach and develop team members, ensuring the ongoing growth of skills and performance of the dispatch team.
  • Plan and schedule staff across all shifts to ensure 24‑hour coverage, aligning resources with volume requirements and service standards.
  • Assist dispatchers or front‑line supervisors in troubleshooting and resolving day‑to‑day issues and activities.
  • Monitor service levels and operational performance to ensure customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Review weekly reports and adjust resources required to meet all KPI's.
  • Ensure all required skills training is in place based on the requirements of each customer.
  • Act as primary operations point person for any billing/payroll issues for accounts within their area of responsibility.
What You’ll Bring
  • 3‑5 years of experience in transportation operations, dispatch management or related roles.
  • Transportation industry experience.
  • College diploma.
  • Excellent leadership and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks.
  • Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment.
  • MS Office proficiency necessary.
Skills & Competencies
  • Working knowledge of transportation cargo claims, transportation laws, and risk management.
  • Awareness of Highway Traffic Act, including hours of service, TDG, weight restrictions etc.
  • Strong understanding of transportation management systems.
