Job description

Help Shape Ontario's Electricity Transmission Future.

Every new community, major investment, and growing industry depends on access to reliable electricity.

The Energy Networks and Indigenous Policy Branch is seeking a collaborative leader to help guide some of Ontario's most significant electricity transmission priorities. The Transmission Policy Unit plays a central role in shaping how Ontario plans, develops, and delivers the electricity transmission infrastructure that powers communities, supports major investments, and enables future economic growth.

From emerging energy demands to major transmission projects across the province, the team's work helps guide decisions that influence how Ontario's electricity system evolves for years to come. Working across government with energy agencies, Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and industry partners, the team leads complex policy, legislative, regulatory, and infrastructure initiatives that support the planning and delivery of major transmission projects across Ontario.

If you are looking for a role where your leadership and policy expertise can make a lasting impact, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.

About the job

We believe great leadership starts with high standards and strong support. In the OPS, that means showing up with authenticity, acting with integrity, and having the courage to do what's right, even when it's hard.

As a leader, you'll shape a team culture that sparks innovation, supports collaboration, and champions inclusion. You'll help build a workplace that is diverse, anti-racist, and accessible, where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to thrive.

You won't be doing it alone. We invest in our leaders through mentorship, learning opportunities, and cross-ministry networks that help you grow your impact and connect with peers across the organization.

Leadership is about impact, and in this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful one. You will:

  • Lead policy, legislative, and regulatory initiatives that help guide the planning and delivery of major electricity transmission infrastructure projects across Ontario.
  • Provide strategic advice and briefings on complex, high-profile transmission and energy issues that support government decision-making and infrastructure planning.
  • Guide policy approaches for transmission planning and infrastructure development that support growing communities, economic development, and emerging energy demands.
  • Bring together ministries, energy agencies, Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and industry partners to advance solutions to complex transmission policy challenges.
  • Enable informed decision-making by translating complex technical, regulatory, and infrastructure issues into clear, actionable advice for decision-makers.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team that delivers strategic policy solutions on issues that influence Ontario's electricity infrastructure and future energy needs.
Meet your New Team

You will join a high-performing team of policy professionals whose work helps guide major transmission planning and infrastructure decisions across Ontario. The team works closely with colleagues across government, energy agencies, Indigenous partners, and stakeholders to address complex policy challenges and advance priority transmission initiatives.

Team members share knowledge, support one another, and work collaboratively to deliver results on issues that have a visible impact across the province. The branch values open communication, professional development, and maintaining a healthy balance between delivering high-profile work and supporting employee well-being.

As Ontario continues to advance major transmission planning and infrastructure priorities, you will have the opportunity to support and develop a team whose work helps inform decisions that affect communities and businesses across the province.

What you bring to the team
  • Leadership Experience: Lead and support teams by setting direction, establishing clear expectations, and creating an environment where people can contribute and succeed.
  • Coaching and Development: Support employee growth through feedback, learning opportunities, and ongoing development that builds individual and team capacity.
  • Team Building: Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages knowledge sharing, accountability, and high-quality results.
Strategic Policy and Decision Making
  • Policy Development: Lead the development and implementation of complex policy, legislative, or regulatory initiatives that support government priorities and guide decision-making on significant infrastructure and energy issues.
  • Strategic Analysis: Assess complex, high-profile policy and infrastructure issues, risks, and competing priorities to develop practical options and recommendations that support informed decision-making.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide strategic recommendations that balance risks, stakeholder interests, government priorities, and long-term objectives.
Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management
  • Building Partnerships: Develop and maintain productive relationships with partners, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and other interest holders to advance shared objectives.
  • Collaboration: Bring together diverse perspectives to address complex policy challenges, identify common ground, and support effective outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage partners early, seek input, and use feedback to inform recommendations, strengthen relationships, and support decision-making.
Communication, Issues Management and Political Acuity
  • Communication: Communicate complex information clearly through briefings, presentations, recommendations, and written materials tailored to different audiences.
  • Political Acuity: Recognize how government priorities, public interests, and organizational dynamics influence decisions, advice, and policy development.
