Job summary

Saputo, Inc. is seeking a Manager of Taxation to join the Canadian tax team. You will prepare income tax provisions, returns, and analyses for Canadian entities, while supporting audits and international matters.

Overview of the role:

Saputo is seeking a Manager, Taxation. Reporting to the Director, Taxation, you will play a key role within the Canadian tax team. You will contribute to tax compliance for Canadian entities, income tax provisions, tax audits, and various technical analyses and business projects in Canada. The role also offers targeted exposure to certain international matters, including issues related to the foreign affiliate regime and OECD Pillar Two. You will be part of an experienced global tax team of approximately 15 people. Your role will involve working closely with members of the tax team as well as with various Saputo departments, including Accounting, Legal, Capital Project Management, Operations, and Human Resources.

How you will make contributions that matter:

Canadian Taxation Prepare and analyze income tax provisions for Canadian entities, including tax continuity schedules by legal entity, instalments, notices of assessment, and relevant tax reconciliations. Participate in the preparation of the consolidated income tax provision. Contribute to analyses related to financial statements, including return-to-provision adjustments and requests from external auditors. Prepare and review Canadian tax returns, including T2 and T5013 returns, as well as underlying forms and relevant information returns, including T106, T1134, and T1135. Gather and validate the information required to prepare tax returns, forms, and tax analyses in collaboration with finance teams and other internal partners. Analyze notices of assessment received and ensure follow-up on tax balances, instalments, tax attributes, and applicable deadlines. Prepare analyses and responses as part of internal, external, and government audits, and support interactions with Canadian tax authorities. Participate in domestic reorganizations, financing activities, fund repatriations, and other business initiatives by identifying relevant Canadian tax issues. Conduct research, prepare technical analyses, and draft memos to support the company’s tax positions. Maintain and monitor Canadian tax attributes, including adjusted cost base, safe income, paid-up capital, losses, and other relevant attributes. Monitor developments in taxation and changes to Canadian tax legislation and administrative positions, and communicate relevant impacts to team members and internal stakeholders. Collaborate with the Transfer Pricing Manager in the preparation of contemporaneous transfer pricing documentation for Canadian companies. Coordinate, prepare, or support claims related to tax credits and incentives, including SR&ED credits, investment tax credits, the tax credit for investment and innovation (C3i) in Quebec, and the manufacturing investment tax credit in Ontario, in collaboration with internal teams and external advisors. Contribute to the continuous improvement of tax compliance, documentation, governance, and control processes.

International Exposure and Special Projects

Participate in the analysis of income from controlled foreign affiliates and in the calculation of foreign accrual property income (FAPI), when required. Participate in the calculation and support certain analyses related to foreign affiliate surplus, fund repatriations, cross-border reorganizations, and the Canadian tax implications of international transactions. Support the team with compliance related to OECD Pillar Two and other international projects when the Canadian team’s involvement is required. Collaborate with external tax advisors and tax teams located outside Canada on certain targeted matters.

You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:
  • CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course, master’s degree in taxation, or equivalent tax training.
  • CPA designation or strong experience in corporate accounting and taxation.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Canadian taxation, gained in a public accounting firm, multinational corporation, or a combination of these environments.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian corporate taxation and strong interest in compliance, income tax provisions, tax audits, and technical analyses.
  • Experience with SR&ED credits, investment tax credits, or innovation and manufacturing tax incentives, considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage several priorities, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work with strong attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset, professional judgment, autonomy, curiosity, and ability to explain complex tax issues to non-tax partners.
  • Collaborative approach and strong internal client service orientation, with the ability to work effectively with Finance, Legal, Operations, Treasury, and external advisor teams.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative attitude that support an effective response to evolving priorities, tax team needs, and requests from various business partners.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, and advanced functions), as well as comfort with analysis and automation tools such as Power BI and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Knowledge of Taxprep is required.
  • Bilingualism (proficiency in written and spoken French and English). As part of their duties, the position holder will be required to communicate and collaborate in English and French, both orally and in writing, with colleagues or other stakeholders located in Québec, elsewhere in Canada, or across North America.

Salary: $102,075 - $133,975 *Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training.
