Job summary

MNP in Kingston, Ontario, is seeking a Tax Manager to lead multiple client-facing engagement teams, delivering customized tax strategies within a complex regulatory framework and acting as a trusted advisor to maximize returns while ensuring compliance.

You will mentor staff, manage engagement planning and budgets, liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency, and contribute to business development and proposals. This role offers a competitive salary and comprehensive rewards.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation and Level 1 of the In-depth Tax Program required.
  • 4–5 years of public accounting or tax consulting experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian tax and strong business acumen.
  • Proven leadership, people management and client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple client-facing engagement teams responsible for tax engagements.
  • Deliver taxation expertise and prepare high-quality deliverables for clients.
  • Advise on policy changes and proactive tax strategies to maximize opportunities.
  • Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency and provincial ministries on client issues.
  • Manage engagement planning, budgets, billing, and project financials.
  • Mentor and coach team members toward development and growth.
  • Support business development and competitive proposals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple client facing engagement teams responsible for the completion of tax engagements
  • Deliver industry and technical expertise taxation and assurance through client interactions, reports, technical work, management presentations and high-quality deliverables
  • Evaluate existing business processes and policies and advise on policy and tax changes; developing proactive tax strategies that make effective use of business opportunities and ensure businesses are run effectively
  • Liaise with Canada Revenue Agency and relevant provincial ministries on client issues
  • Prepare election forms required in corporate reorganizations
  • Assist in the management of the administration of personal and trust tax compliance seasons
  • Manage a portfolio of clients while understanding their business, key risks and ways to deliver added value; ensuring their needs are met and that relationships and accounts grow and develop
  • Accountable for engagement planning and scheduling as well as project financials (i.e. budgets, WIPS, timely billing, collection and variance recognition)
  • Maintain high quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify and address issues relevant to the client’s business, financial entries and reports
  • Network in the local business community, consider business development opportunities and contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches in order to improve work processes
  • Mentor, motivate and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and conducting performance reviews
  • Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary
Skills And Experience
  • CPA designation
  • Completion of Level 1 of In-depth Tax Program and other specialist development courses
  • 4 to 5 years of relevant public accounting or tax consulting experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of Canadian Tax
  • Strong understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principles
  • Proven people management, relationship building and leadership skills
