Manager, Software Engineering (Identity Engineering)

Identity Engineering owns the systems responsible for onboarding all consumers and managing their authentication and verification journeys across Affirm’s product surfaces. We are looking for a highly motivated manager to help build this team.
The manager will be instrumental in guiding the team through technical challenges, driving process improvements, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing customer conversion. This engineering leader position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to own and deliver high-availability and low-latency systems on the critical paths for all of our products.
What you’ll do:
- Build teams: Lead a high-performance identity engineering team with a focus on building a culture of innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution
- Collaborate: Work closely with your peers across the organization on projects that turn opportunity into results
- Influence technical strategy: Collaborate with a broad range of engineering and analytics teams, leveraging your experience to deliver a long-term technical roadmap that meets stakeholder and growing business needs
- Raise the bar: Hold a high technical bar while driving the improvement of your team’s quality standards and development processes
- Grow others: Play an active role in coaching and mentoring team members, providing timely feedback and creating an environment where every engineer is empowered to grow in their career
What we look for:
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in software engineering with 2+ years of engineering leadership experience
- Technical skills: Prior experience architecting, building, launching, and maintaining backend systems
- Technical leadership: Demonstrated experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers with the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and influence technical decisions across teams
- Team player: Community builder with strong network-building and collaboration skills and a strong desire to grow and mentor others
- Communication skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Education: This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
