The Role

The Manager, Software Engineering will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software products for our CAD and RMS clients. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the team, driving best practices in software development, and ensuring the successful delivery of engineering projects. This role requires a combination of strong technical expertise, leadership, and a passion for mentoring engineers. We build highly available software that is delivered into multiple states, and we are looking for experienced leaders that understand the criticality of the work.

What You’ll Do

Management:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Set clear work goals and expectations, provide regular feedback to staff to cultivate trust and growth.
  • Cultivate career development, performance, and personal goals of staff during regular one on one meetings.

Team Member Development:

  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to grow their skill sets and cultivate the next wave of Versaterm leadership.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities to staff to learn and engage in professional development through training, courses, conferences, etc.
  • Co‑develop growth strategies for each of your team members.

Technical Guidance:

  • Promote Versaterm technical standards and best practices within the team.
  • Encourage innovation and experimentation within the team to inform Versaterm of emerging trends that can be evaluated as part of our continuous improvement.
  • Invest in education and training to stay abreast of industry trends and technologies to drive innovation.

Quality Guidance

  • Ensure quality, performance, and security of developed solutions are achieved through regular code reviews and audits.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance strategies and processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality products.
  • Define and enforce testing standards, including automated and manual testing practices.

Product Development Management:

  • Generate and coordinate plans, execution, and delivery of product within established time requirements and within budget.
  • Work across various engineering teams to align effort and drive business value for our customers.
  • Manage resources and prioritize tasks to drive efficient development operations.
  • Measure and report standardized development metrics for responsible product lines.

Technical Skill:

  • Provide technical guidance and support for engineering team(s) as needed.
  • Align teams with Versaterm goals and initiatives around DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience and training.
  • 6-8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role or applicable combination of experience.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to balance technical leadership with effective team management of priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Knowledge and usage of Jira, Azure DevOps or similar development management platforms is required.
  • Proven ability to make data‑driven decisions and provide clear, actionable feedback.
Impress Us With
  • Experience with Genero, C#, Vue technologies is highly valued.
  • Experience building high availability, highly configurable, multi‑tenant, multi‑state SaaS solutions.
  • Experience with architecting and developing cloud‑based SaaS products using AWS, Microsoft Azure or equivalent technologies.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Terraform, Azure ARM templates and similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with ISO, SOC 2 or other high regulation procedures.
  • Previous experience in GovTech or Public Safety Tech is a plus.

This position requires a security clearance from the Government of Canada. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must successfully obtain and maintain a Reliability security clearance.
