Manager, Software Development - Performance Management
Company Description

Workleap is a Montreal-based tech company on a mission to make work simpler. Since 2006, we’ve been building game-changing products that tackle HR and IT’s biggest challenges. Workleap operates two distinct product lines:

  • The Workleap Platform, an AI-powered HR solution designed to drive team performance and boost employee engagement.
  • ShareGate, the leading Microsoft 365 migration and governance solution, trusted by IT professionals worldwide for its unmatched simplicity.

Today, more than 20,000 companies rely on Workleap products to grow, lead, and operate with confidence. We’re builders at heart, with a clear purpose: to craft the simplest products that deliver exceptional value for our customers. Period.

Job Description

So, what will your new role look like?

You’ll lead a team of five developers on Workleap Performance while staying close to the code. Around 60% of your time will be spent as an individual contributor (technical design, development, code reviews, quality), and 40% will go to people management (coaching, 1:1s, hiring, performance, team rituals).

At Workleap, we value builder-leaders — people who coach while building. This 60/40 balance ensures you stay technically sharp while growing your team and accelerating delivery in line with our pragmatic, lean, and high-impact engineering culture.

Your mission: help Workleap Performance become the go-to product for employee performance management through fast, high-quality feature delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop your team (1:1s, continuous feedback, growth plans);
  • Contribute directly to code — design, development, and quality improvements;
  • Drive engineering excellence: testing, security, observability, reliability, and performance;
  • Optimize delivery flow (CI/CD, automation, dev tools, standards);
  • Partner with Product and Design to frame, scope, and deliver high-value, simple solutions;
  • Anticipate risks, make pragmatic trade-offs, and communicate transparently.

A typical week?

  • 60% – Individual contribution:
    • Technical design (~10%)
    • Development and code reviews (~40%)
    • Quality and deployments (~10%)
  • 40% – Management & leadership:
    • 1:1s and coaching (~15%)
    • Planning and cross-functional coordination (~10%)
    • Process improvement (~10%)
    • Hiring and onboarding (~5%)

What does your future team look like?

You’ll join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to Workleap Performance, including developers, PMs, and designers.

Performance is still a young product within the Workleap platform, so you’ll play a key role in shaping its foundation and evolving its practices. It’s an environment built on experimentation, collaboration, and initiative.

What are the next challenges awaiting your team?

  • Accelerate feature delivery while maintaining quality;
  • Integrate new AI-powered experiences into the product;
  • Coach the team through the ups and downs of building a new product;
  • Enhance developer experience to leverage the latest AI advancements.
Qualifications
  • Experience managing a team of developers;
  • Strong pragmatism (YAGNI, KISS) and clear sense of priorities;
  • Technical excellence: clean code, testing, CI/CD, code reviews;
  • Efficiency and customer impact obsession;
  • Cross-functional collaboration (Product, Design, Data Science);
  • Clear, kind, and challenging communication;
  • Hands-on use of generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) for coding and problem-solving;
  • Experience with modern cloud environments and distributed services;
  • Practical mastery of TypeScript, React, .NET, MongoDB, and CI/CD Azure (or modern equivalents).
