Job description
Academic & Administrative Leadership
  • Lead and promote simulation learning initiatives in collaboration with designated schools.
  • Develop and implement annual strategic and operational plans that enact the vision and priorities of the simulation centres.
  • Provide leadership and direction, and delegate and monitor the actions of direct reports to ensure strategic objectives and operational plans are executed within their approved budgets and schedules.
  • Plan and conduct systematic reviews of simulation centres’ initiatives with all partners.
  • Actively model and implement principles of technology and resource management, leadership, mentoring, and motivation.
  • Provide expertise in the selection and use of technologies and delivery methods to support education in a simulated learning environment.
  • Initiate and engage in ongoing projects to ensure the best management of technology, innovations, and resources across the Schools.
Relationship Management
  • Maintain effective relationships with local health regions, government and other external partners.
  • Establish strategic partnerships as needed to stay current with industry innovations and practices at other post‑secondary institutions.
  • Collaborate with CHRIS Research Managers and the Office of Applied Research and Innovation (OARI).
  • Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with faculty and administrative staff across Nursing, Health Sciences, Continuing Education, and Education & Community Services.
Resource Allocation
  • Plan, implement, and monitor operating and capital budgets for the simulation centres.
  • Ensure resource allocation for all programs and services aligns with strategic priorities and school objectives; monitor progress against multi‑year business plans and project priorities.
  • Monitor financial performance and conduct regular reviews to ensure adherence to established budgets.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly operations and budget reports with variance explanations.
  • Authorize and monitor direct reports’ operational budgets, including p‑card approvals.
  • Manage school/divisional budgets and faculty workload to ensure efficient resource use and accurate year‑end forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with Saskatchewan Polytechnic policies and procedures in resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to resource challenges while maintaining alignment with strategic goals.
  • Identify and create business plans for revenue generation opportunities within the school, monitoring results and value for services offered.
  • Drive effective use of technology and innovation to maximize resources through ongoing project management and process/quality improvement initiatives.
People Management
  • Manage human resources through the employee life cycle reflecting the values of Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
  • Foster an organizational environment that encourages personal productivity, job satisfaction and the professional growth of faculty and employees in the program areas, including group and personal development plans.
  • Foster a culture of organizational safety and security.
  • Establish clear performance standards and goals for direct reports and hold them accountable for meeting standards and goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of faculty assessment and new employee training by mentoring and empowering Program Heads to manage daily activities. Handle escalated issues as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of staff performance through effective use of human resources practices and procedures including recruitment, selection, orientation, training, probationary reviews, motivating and assessing program faculty and employees.
  • Address people management issues with direct reports, including independent authority to discipline, dismiss and/or terminate where appropriate, applied in a timely manner while ensuring compliance with the collective agreement and Saskatchewan Polytechnic policies.
  • Act as a first point of contact to interpret, administer and manage within respective collective bargaining agreements and ensure employee standards are applied appropriately.
  • Oversee scheduling, workload, program activity initiatives and instructional hours of faculty to ensure consistency across the division.
  • Promote effective communication between all organizational levels.
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment.
Risk Assessment and Management
  • Identify, assess and manage risks in the school planning processes and more broadly, across the organization.
  • Assess the viability and feasibility of concepts for their innovation, sustainability and relevancy to the Saskatchewan Polytechnic environment.
  • Ensure accountability and transparency of the school’s activities, information and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial laws, regulations, institute policies and collective agreements.
  • Ensure the general safeguarding and stewardship of all resources within the school. Define and hold accountable those with accountability and authority in the school.
