Job summary

TC Energy is seeking a Senior Safety Leader to deliver exceptional safety performance across gas and power businesses in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

You will design, deliver and continually improve frontline safety programs and contractor safety management in partnership with field leaders to foster a proactive safety culture. You will lead a team of safety subject matter experts, align enterprise safety requirements, and interface with regulators and industry groups to advance safety

Qualifications

• 10 years of experience in safety management.
• Post-secondary degree in a safety related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years leadership experience.
• Certification or accreditation in safety (CRSP, CSP, etc.) or recognized equivalent.
• Have and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Excellent technical and report writing abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to challenge status-quo to drive consensus.
• Willingness to travel ~20% for field activities.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Integrated Safety & Contractor Management, this position is responsible to deliver exceptional safety performance across the TC Energy gas and power businesses in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

This position leads the occupational safety, programs alignment, and contractor safety functions within the Integrated Safety and Contractor Management team. The successful candidate will be accountable for the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of frontline safety programs and the contractor safety management model across TC Energy partnering with field leaders to embed a consistent, incident prevention focused safety culture.

What You’ll Do

• Provide leadership and strategic direction to an experienced team of Safety subject matter experts in service of Enterprise and Business unit objectives
• Accountable for the enterprise safety requirements, strategy, and technical expertise that encompasses occupational safety and contractor safety management to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
• Collaborate with Business Unit operations and project teams, BU Safety teams, and Safety & Technical Services stakeholders on safety performance and prioritize safety strategies based on learning from incidents, assurance of Operating Management System requirements, and business unit objectives
• Set direction and standards for occupational safety programs, ensuring alignment across regions and business units
• Implement enterprise components of the contractor safety management model – prequalification, onboarding, assurance, and contractor performance review
• Drive programs alignment – harmonize training, change management, and communication so teams work consistently to implement safe work practices
• Performance management of team, including hiring of personnel
• Support a learning culture through promotion and communication of shared organizational learnings
• Lead key safety assessments, safety initiatives, safety communities of practice and committees
• Present key safety strategies and pathways to stakeholders across TC Energy as requested
• Interface with external regulators, contractors, and Industry Groups to support TC Energy safety objectives and influence advancements in safety
• Participate in investigations, internal assessments, and creation of preventative and corrective actions as required
• Monitor leading and lagging indicators, report performance to leadership and steer corrective action
• Manage budget for team and identify budget impacts for business units to align with the TC budget planning cycle

Minimum Qualifications

• 10 years of experience in safety management
• Post-secondary degree in a safety related discipline (process safety engineering, occupational safety, etc.)
• Minimum of 3 years leadership experience
• Certification or accreditation in safety (CRSP, CSP, etc.) or recognized equivalent
• Have and maintain a valid driver's license
• Excellent technical and report writing abilities
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to challenge status-quo to drive consensus
• Influential leader with proficiency in human and organizational performance and culture transformation
• Hold a valid passport and have the ability and willingness to travel with an expectation of a minimum of 20% to conduct assurance and support for field activities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the upstream and midstream oil and gas and/or power generating industry(s)
• Working knowledge of safety metrics, process safety, management systems, projects/contractor safety, and pipeline/gas facility operations
• Fluent written and oral French and/or Spanish language skills
• Strong knowledge and experience in of all areas of Safety and Health Programs
• Strong working knowledge of various Regulatory Frameworks and Environments in the TC Energy operating footprint
• Training in the areas of investigations, and assurance/audits
