Job Description: Manager, CANDU 6 Retube Fuel Channel and Fuel Handling Design Engineering (Qinshan Units 1 and 2 Retube Project and Cernavoda Unit 1 Retube Project)

Your role within the team

Reporting to the Director of CANDU 6 Retube Fuel Channel and Fuel Handling Design Engineering, the Fuel Channel and Fuel Handling Design Engineering Manager is responsible for:

  • Providing the lead role for the Qinshan Units 1 and 2 Retube and Cernavoda Unit 1 Retube Projects in the area of fuel channel and fuel channel component, and fuel handling design engineering activities including the preparation of technical specifications, drawings, design specifications, bill of materials, and design certifications.
  • Providing technical expertise on code and standard requirements such as CSA N285 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
  • Ensuring activities are executed in accordance with specified requirements including review and endorsement of the technical content of deliverables, verification of high‑quality deliverables, on‑time and within budget delivery, and approval of deliverables.
  • Interfacing with internal and external customers and stakeholders to establish priorities, and initiating and approving work proposals for the projects.
  • Recruiting, training, developing, motivating, coaching, and evaluating the performance of the team on the Qinshan Units 1 and 2 Retube and Cernavoda Unit 1 Retube Projects.
  • Working with the Project Management and Project Engineering Management team to plan work, ensuring resource availability and allocation, assigning tasks, and reporting progress against deliverables.
  • Providing strong leadership within the project team and within the company for aspects related to fuel channel and fuel handling design engineering.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies such as TSSA, ISCIR, CNCAN, and CNSC, as required.
  • Assisting in the preparation of proposals in support of the CANDU 6 Retube Reactor Components Design Engineering scope.
  • Ensuring that an appropriate combination of skills and experience is maintained within the project to provide technical leadership and specialized expertise, including objective setting and performance reviews.

The ideal candidate
  • University Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of technical experience in the area of fuel channel design engineering and/or mechanical engineering.
  • Overall understanding of CANDU reactor design and the design of CANDU fuel channels, fuel channel components, and fuel handling.
  • Knowledgeable in CSA N285 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing and leading technical projects and leading a highly technical group.
  • Strong leadership and people skills for interacting with external clients and organizations and communicating effectively.
  • Ability to resolve technical issues and foster working relationships with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining credibility and trust through successful delivery of commitments.
  • Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
