Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Projects, the Section Manager will utilize their experience to lead multidisciplinary projects in support of LEP\'s isotopes business line. This role is accountable for leading matrix project execution teams including design, cost schedule, quality, material control and contract work. They will be responsible for optimization of project implementation.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supervise professional and technical staff. Plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate work of staff. Assign tasks and provide instructions as required.
  • Develop work methods. Make effective recommendations to the Supervisor regarding staff issues in specified areas such as training, transfer, promotion, selection, and discipline.
  • Provide advice, administer, diagnose, and solve problems associated with Department facilities and specific project elements.
  • Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, including equipment and staffing.
  • Integrate the efforts of all persons contributing to a project including the customer, planning, finance, engineering, estimating, etc.
  • Receive assignments from Supervisor; assess, evaluate, diagnose, identify, and recommend initial disposition of problems requiring further review and investigation, or abandonment of the problem as the best alternative. Prepare detailed documentation of proposals as required.
  • Submit necessary documentation covering the complete proposal for forwarding to responsible bodies.
  • Maintain and/or update operating, and other specified Department procedures. Discuss with operating personnel or others as required to ensure current practices are recognized in the procedure. Prepare new or revised procedures consistent with operating licenses, policies, and standard practices. Execute technical surveillance programs as required in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Prepare reports to provide information and data in response to external requests. Initiate studies or investigations where opportunities for improvement are apparent. Collect, or arrange for collection, assembly and analysis of data associated with past events or operations. Prepare reports for distribution to various groups outlining technical details of procedures, processes, results, or conclusions.
  • Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned areas of responsibility. Discuss proposals with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions. Recommend disposition of proposals to Supervisor in writing for review, and forward to approving authority.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of specifications for purchasing requisitions for material, services, and equipment. Approve designated specifications as assigned. Follow-up with procurement and provide necessary project technical services during field installation. Prepare recommendations for spare parts requirements for existing and new equipment.
  • Recommend research and development programs required to improve equipment, systems, or unit reliability or performance. Follow-up on such work and participate in coordination as required.
  • Participate in training programs to develop own and staff knowledge of systems and equipment, including department procedures. Attend lectures, perform assignments, write examinations, and prepare training materials.
  • Lead the application of quality principles to the work of the Unit through enhanced service and teamwork.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Department\'s annual budget. Provide cost estimates for new products and update costs of existing projects for budget input. Monitor actual project costs, investigate variances, and assist in financial justifications for the release of project funds.
  • Other duties as required.
Experience
  • Minimum 8-10 years of Project Management experience.
  • Experience in managing projects of increasing complexity, typically involving multiple contracts and stakeholders with schedule constraints.
  • Proficiency with Project Management tools and methodologies. Nuclear engineering process knowledge, management, and experience will be considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team and manage interrelationships of internal and external groups to meet stakeholder requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience addressing environmental protection concerns.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to complete projects within scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Experience with FME, ALARA, and other nuclear tools.
  • People-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience overseeing projects through their life cycle.
  • Advanced budgeting and finance knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to multiple changing priorities.
