Department Overview

The Wealth Investment Office (WIO) provides institutional-grade investment strategy, portfolio management, and goals-based models and portfolios for private clients. WIO sets the standard for investment strategy and portfolio management across TD Bank Group’s Wealth Management businesses, including Financial Planning, Private Investment Advice, and Family Office. Its portfolios are process-driven, goals-based, risk-adjusted, scalable, efficient, and compliant.

WIO offers a dynamic, multifaceted, and fast-paced environment for professionals who are passionate about investment management and advising others on how to build and manage portfolios. The team provides holistic portfolio management, counsel, and guidance across traditional, endowment, and risk-aware investment approaches.

Role Overview

The Manager, Privately Managed Portfolios supports TD Wealth Private Investment Advice’s TD Privately Managed Program (PMP). The program has more than $120 billion in assets managed on a discretionary basis by over 475 Portfolio Managers (PMs) and is targeted for continued growth.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Investment Strategy & Business Management, the Manager will help shape the advisor experience for the discretionary investment management program—from application and registration through onboarding and ongoing development.

The Manager will collaborate with field leaders, the Supervising Portfolio Manager, Compliance, Registration, Technology, and other partners to deliver effective program operations, governance, education, communications, reporting, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities

• Support the design and operation of the PMP program and its internal compliance rules in accordance with applicable CIRO requirements.
• Work across TD to develop and implement process improvements as new technology solutions are introduced for Portfolio Managers.
• Serve as a key liaison among the, Business Governance, Advice Solutions & Enablement, Wealth Business Risk, and Compliance.
• Manage the program mailbox, service standards, inquiries, and escalations.
• Prepare materials for approval and governance forums, coordinate required endorsements, and escalations.
• Serve as a member of the PM Priority Council, the PMP’s internal working committee as a forum for PM to voice their feedback, and other ideas on how we can improve the program
• Produce the PMP quarterly newsletter, program collateral, frequently asked questions, job aids, and other communications.
• Host PMP calls and conferences.
• Maintain clear guides, templates, checklists, and documentation standards.
• Coordinate onboarding and development programs for Associate Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Managers.
• Develop practical learning materials and coordinate training on Investment Policy Statements, program tools, processes, and documentation.
• Manage advisor application and registration pipelines, including intake, assessment, approval, submission, and status tracking.
• Review PM and Associate Portfolio Manager applications and make recommendations to support approval or decline decisions for entry into the PMP.
• Coach program applicants on preparing complete and acceptable applications.
• Act as a key resource and subject matter expert on all matters related to the program.
• Lead technology enhancement projects related to the program.
• Participate in program enhancements, testing, and implementation.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Key Relationships

The position works closely with the following internal stakeholders:

• Portfolio Management Consultants, specialists on Sales Enablement team such as Implementation specialists, Fees & Pricing.
• Branch Managers, Regional Managers, Investment Advisors, and Portfolio Managers.
• Wealth Advice Strategy Enablement team.
• Senior leaders and executive representatives from Wealth businesses, Risk, and Compliance through the Portfolio Management Review Committee.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Experience in wealth or investment management, advisor support, governance, compliance, operations, or program management.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of discretionary portfolio management, advisor registration, managed accounts, or Investment Policy Statements.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior managers and executives.
• Demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative business relationships.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Retail portfolio management experience is an asset.

Education and Accreditation

• University degree required; a degree in business or a related field is preferred.
• Industry accreditation, such as the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, is a strong asset.
