Job summary

BMO Financial Group is seeking an experienced Investment Advisory professional to support Investment Counsellors by administering and implementing client portfolios in BPIC discretionary accounts. You will generate orders, monitor performance, and liaise with trading desks to optimize client outcomes.

The role requires CFA or equivalent, 5+ years in investment services, and strong knowledge of portfolio management and compliance frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Registration as Advising Representative with Provincial Securities Commissions or eligible to register.
  • University degree required; CFA Charter or Canadian Investment Manager designation preferred.

The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is responsible for supporting BMO Private Banking Canada's Investment Counselors (ICs) with the effective administration and implementation and monitoring of client investment accounts which are to be in line with BMO Privates Investment Counsel (BPIC)'s philosophy, strategies and mandates.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. 1. Portfolio Administration and Implementation
  2. Implement investment recommendations of the Investment Policy Committee and investment managers by generating orders and executing transactions in BPIC's discretionary accounts.
  3. Support Investment Counsellors in the administration and management of client portfolios by generating orders and executing transactions upon request.
  4. Maintain low portfolio variability with established investment models to keep performance in line with internal benchmarks.
  5. Proactively review client accounts to ensure portfolios are managed in an efficient manner by utilizing portfolio management software capabilities while ensuring compliance with investment constraints.
  6. Proactively liaise with the trading desk to enhance synergies.
  7. In some cases, may have direct interaction with clients in establishing appropriate Investment Policy Statements for centrally managed mandates for Trust and staff accounts.
  8. 2. Practice Management and Team Effectiveness
  9. Establish and maintain positive relationships with Investment Counsellors and provide guidance to Investment Counsellors in the management of client portfolios.
  10. Coach, motivate, develop and provide counsel to Portfolio Associates and Portfolio Assistants in the resolution of complex issues.
  11. Provide insight and share expertise with team members and colleagues in regards to BPIC's investment platform and products.

  13. Provide feedback and support to the Regional Directors of Investments.

  15. Assist, as subject matter experts, with ad-hoc projects in support of BMO Private Wealth Canada initiatives.

  17. Protect the Bank's assets and clients by ensuring proper adherence to all aspects of First Principles, Our Code of Conduct, Ethics, and compliance policies and procedures relating to private client money management.

Qualifications

Credentials and experience sufficient to achieve registration as Advising Representative with Provincial Securities Commissions is required (earned CFA Charter and has gained 12 months of relevant investment management experience in the 36-month period before applying for registration; or received the Canadian Investment Manager designation and has gained 48 months of relevant investment management experience, 12 months of which was gained in the 36-month period before applying for registration) or eligibility to be registered as an Advising Representative - Client Relationship Manager (AR-CRM).

University degree

CFA Charter or Canadian Investment Manager designation

Minimum of 5 years working experience in the investment and/or financial services industry either in a similar role or within the Private Wealth or Investment Management divisions.

  • Strong understanding of portfolio management principles and the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, relationship management and persuasion skills (verbal, listening and writing)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills as well as being organized and the ability to multi-task and take initiative
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products and familiarity with taxation issues.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Strong technical skills and exposure to portfolio management and trading (Charles River - CRIMS and CRA) and book of record software (FIS - Global Plus) is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office, MS Outlook, Bloomberg is an asset.

Salary :

$70,000.00 - $150,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
