Modern Niagara is seeking a Manager, P&C Field Operations to partner with field leadership and the union, ensuring compliant and productive labour relations across Canada. The role focuses on investigations, guiding performance, and deploying P&C initiatives to strengthen culture and performance.

The successful candidate will act as a strategic advisor, maintain knowledge of evolving legislation, and support field teams and unions to resolve issues, while traveling across Canada as

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in HR, Labour Relations or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ HRBP experience in a unionized environment.
  • Extensive experience interpreting collective agreements and advising on labour relations.
  • Willingness to travel across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with field leadership and the union to implement P&C initiatives focused on attracting, developing and retaining our talent
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team and field leadership to develop proactive strategies to ensure projects are appropriately resourced and help build talent pipeline for future initiatives
  • Identify barriers that are impeding adoption of P&C initiatives in the field and partner with teams to ensure they are addressed
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of workforce composition by analyzing employee data, labour relations metrics, and grievance trends to identify risks, uncover insights, and make data-driven recommendations that enhance employee relations, operational effectiveness, and organizational performance.
  • Subject Matter expert on collective agreement interpretation, unionized employee relations, and labour relations issues, providing strategic advice and guidance to unionized employees and leaders
  • Manage labour relations activities on sites and advise on the application and administration of collective agreements, organizational policies, and employment legislation and best practices to ensure organizational compliance and effective employee relations
  • Work with field leadership and union representatives to resolve labour relations issues and conflict. Provide coaching to field leaders on managing employee performance (e.g. Grievances, Arbitrations, workforce shortages, referrals, etc.)
  • Respond and investigate any complaints of Workplace Violence and Harassment and follow up on any corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage grievances in partnership with business leaders to ensure issues are investigated and resolutions are documented
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment and labour legislation, collective bargaining trends, and arbitration decisions across various sectors.

Must Haves:
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Labour Relations or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in an HR business partner role in a unionized environment
  • Extensive experience interpretating collective agreements and providing labour relations guidance with proven ability to manage complex Labour Relations in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to build trust and relationships with field leaders
  • Knowledge of employment legislation: Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Act, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code etc.
  • Willingness to travel across Canada as needed
Nice to haves:
  • Proficient in MS Office and experience working with an HRIS (UKG an asset)
  • Previous working experience in construction
