JOB OVERVIEW

As Ontario Power Generation’s business grows as part of the energy transition, we are looking to hire strategic and results-driven professionals to join our New Nuclear Growth team in the role of Manager, New Nuclear Strategy and Business Development.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategy and Business Development, the Manager is responsible for supporting the strategy and growth of OPG’s new nuclear generation opportunities. The role is required to build and maintain excellent relationships with external project stakeholders and work closely with various OPG internal business units including engineering, finance, commercial, law and executives to advance projects.

As the Manager, you will also be responsible to:

  • Support the strategy and business development of OPG’s new nuclear generation opportunities
  • Manage complex deliverables and timelines in order to progress opportunities for OPG and advance work
  • Understand provincial and federal energy policy and their impacts on energy markets
  • Attend and represent OPG at offsite meetings to support domestic new nuclear opportunities
  • Proactively develop and maintain relationships in the energy sector, including with government, technology and service providers, and other stakeholders

Using new and innovative technologies such as small modular reactors, hydrogen and battery storage, while expanding our hydroelectric and nuclear portfolios, we are changing the electricity landscape in Ontario.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage strategic and business development initiatives, providing business and commercial advice, guidance and support on strategic issues affecting OPG
  • Develop and present executive communications to internal and external audiences, ensuring clarity and strategic alignment
  • Lead or partner with internal project or deal teams and work with external advisors on potential business opportunities
  • Monitor and assess key corporate strategic developments related to nuclear (internal and external), and facilitate the integration of business intelligence, information, perspectives and analyses
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of provincial and federal energy policies, markets, and nuclear energy policies to inform business strategies
  • Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships within OPG to gather input and advance business development and strategy projects
  • Project manage and/or support a range of strategic development and planning initiatives
  • Provide professional leadership; ensure that staff seek out best practices, develop their skills to benefit OPG to meet current needs and for succession planning in the organization
  • Ensure staff are fully engaged and aligned to business goals and objectives. Promote collaboration and teamwork, instilling expectations of excellence and personal best performance. Provide a safe, healthy and positive working environment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree with a focus in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering or Business Administration, or a relevant study is required
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Finance (MFin) is considered an asset
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in strategy or business development, preferably with experience in the energy sector or comparable industry (nuclear experience is helpful, but not required)
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges. A strong drive and a high level of energy, commitment and enthusiasm to take on complex and challenging situations in a dynamic organization
  • People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive and collaborative working relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the ability to present material to senior and executive management
  • Strong strategic and facilitative leadership skills; demonstrating the ability to effectively lead, influence and motivate teammates
  • Strong sense of urgency and decision-making skills conducive to managing priorities and meeting internal and external timelines
  • Experience and exposure from working in/for energy or infrastructure investments, power generation or utilities is preferred
