Job summary

Voyageur Aviation Corp. is seeking a Manager, NDT (Accessory Shop) to lead the NDT department, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient delivery of services.

You will manage personnel, customer and vendor relationships, and oversee quality control, planning and continuous improvement in a fast-paced aviation environment. You will work from our North Bay head office, Monday–Friday, 40 hours with occasional overtime and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field.
  • CGSB Level 2 PT and MT certifications required.
  • NAS 410 Level 2 qualifications are an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of NDT or related technical experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and employee development capabilities.
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer-focused abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management to NDT personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and support employee development and succession planning.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of qualified NDT personnel.
  • Manage customer relationships to ensure repair requirements are planned, prioritized, and executed per contracts.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure repairs and supplies meet expectations.
  • Foster growth and lead change to increase departmental capacity, capabilities, and safety.
  • Ensure quality procedures and audits are followed to maintain safe, airworthy output.
  • Oversee financial reporting, estimates, and invoicing for the NDT Shop.
  • Promote Voyageur's Safety Management System and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement NDT procedures for specified materials and equipment.
  • Communicate test results and project progress with stakeholders.
  • Develop relationships with customers and prospective clients for future work.

Explore your next role:
  • The Manager, NDT (Accessory Shop) is responsible for the leadership, operational performance, technical oversight, quality compliance, and continuous improvement of the NDT department. The position is accountable for managing personnel, customer and vendor relationships, regulatory compliance, resource planning, and the safe and efficient delivery of NDT services that meet customer, regulatory, and company requirements.
NDT Shop Management
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance management to NDT personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and support employee development and succession planning.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention of qualified NDT personnel.
  • Manage customer relationships to ensure repair requirements are planned, prioritized, and executed in accordance with customer expectations, contractual commitments, and operational requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure repairs and supplies meet expectations.
  • Foster growth and lead change initiatives to increase departmental capacity, capabilities, operational effectiveness and employee development.
  • Ensure quality procedures and policies are followed to ensure a safe workplace and the delivery of airworthy products.
  • Oversee quality checks and audits to ensure process are followed and work is completed within established standards and requirements.
  • Complete, evaluate, and examine the financial reporting, estimates and invoicing of the NDT Shop.
  • Promote and support Voyageur's Safety Management System, ensuring hazards and incidents are reported and addressed in accordance with company requirements.
  • Develop and implement company NDT procedures for specified materials and equipment.
  • Communicate and work closely with internal and external stakeholders regarding test results, work priorities, repair requirements, and project progress.
  • Foster relationships with customers that strengthen partnerships, support current contractual obligations, and create future business opportunities.
  • Develop relationships with prospective customers to identify opportunities for future work.
NDT Training and Testing Duties
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to NDT personnel.
  • Perform NDT inspections utilizing Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) as required to support operational requirements and qualification gaps.
  • Ensure NDT equipment is maintained and systems performance checks are conducted in accordance with manufacturer and industry recommendations.
  • Identify manufacturing defects or other hidden flaws in test equipment or materials being used such as cracks,

metal fatigue, defects in welds and joints that may weaken materials or cause fatigue damage.

  • Set up and calibrate equipment to conduct non-destructive tests according to the material type, thickness, distance from test equipment, and other related variables, while using standard formulas.
  • Conduct tests on parts, structures, and other materials using non-destructive techniques ensuring all established procedures are followed.
  • Perform additional tests if the initial results are inconclusive
  • Monitor and support employee technical competency, qualification, and certification requirements in accordance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate NDT Testing Results and Personnel
  • Evaluate and interpret test results using designated standards.
  • Prepare written reports outlining findings and conclusions including design drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is completed and maintained in compliance with customer, industry, regulatory and company standards.
  • Provide observation, evaluation, and testing of NDT personnel to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Monitor and support the qualification, certification, and competency requirements of NDT personnel in accordance with applicable standards and company requirements.
Your Distinctive Ingredients for Success:
  • Post-secondary education in a technical field.
  • Mandatory: CGSB Level 2 certification in Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).
  • Asset: CGSB Level 2 certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and/or Eddy Current Testing (ET),
  • Asset: NAS 410 Level 2 qualifications. Candidates holding NAS 410 qualifications will be expected to obtain corresponding CGSB certifications.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in NDT or a related technical role.
  • Demonstrated leadership and employee development capabilities.
  • Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and technical report-writing skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer-focused with strong relationship management skills.

You must be legally eligible to work for a Canadian company (e.g., be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or possess a valid work permit) and provide a clear Criminal Background Check.
