Atlantic Packaging is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the New Forest maintenance team, implementing TPM strategies to ensure safe, efficient production. You will drive safety leadership, TPM execution, and team development in a fast-paced heavy industry setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health, safety and environmental leadership to the maintenance team.

The Opportunity

The Maintenance Manager will provide leadership to the New Forest maintenance team, ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and equipment by implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategies, which includes preventive maintenance, proactive problem-solving, and continuous improvement initiatives, while adhering to safety regulations and optimizing production efficiency.

What You’ll Do
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
  • Create a culture where the safety of our people and our environment stewardship are priorities over production
  • Engage in daily safety conversations with team leaders and team members to always keep safety top of mind
  • Actively promote the SafeStart program and monitor adherence
  • Perform "safety observations" to ensure specific safety rules, procedures, housekeeping, proactive accident prevention and conscious safety behaviours are adhered to and enforced if necessary
  • Actively participate in inquiries from the JHSC and ensure follow up measures and goals are achieved through the JHSC
TPM Leadership
  • Create a culture where we embrace and implement TPM methodologies enabling our capability to achieve a world class OEE target of 90% by the end of 2025
  • Champion TPM principles across the maintenance team, driving employee engagement in ownership of equipment upkeep and performance improvement including; break down analysis (BDA), root cause analysis (RCA), clean inspect & lubricate activities (CIL), focused improvements (FI), and/or kaizen events.
  • Facilitate TPM training for superintendents and supervisors.
  • Ensure on-going participation by maintenance leaders in daily and weekly operations review (DOR & WOR) meetings to check performance metrics, identify issues, and develop corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in the monthly review of site Objectives, Goals, Strategies, and Metrics (OGSM) and contribute to the development of the annual plan
Team Leadership
  • Create a culture where our people want to come to work, enjoy working together, and share a sense of belonging
  • Manage performance of direct reports by setting expectations, providing feedback, supporting development and issuing recognition, in alignment with site OGSM and the corporate performance management program
  • Ensure consistent application of mill rules, procedures and attendance guidelines – coach and support shift supervisors to maintain high standards of professionalism and fairness.
  • Monitor team performance and reward accomplishments through celebrations and recognition (both individual and group).
  • Conduct routine individual performance reviews with direct reports
  • Manage team vacation schedules to ensure reliable coverage and support is always available.
  • Collaborate with the Sales, Scheduling, Shipping, Operations, Procurement and Accounting Departments as required to maintain relationships based on mutual respect
Quality Leadership
  • Create a culture where we strive to meet customer expectations on paper quality and workmanship
  • Maintain an active awareness of new technological developments of relevance to the mill’s processes
  • Work synergistically with the Project Engineering Department to plan process modifications and machine upgrades to improve product quality, production throughput, and safety.
Cost Leadership
  • Build a culture of cost awareness to enable our core value of acting like a business owner.
  • Identify areas within the Maintenance Department where costs can be reduced and lead initiatives to realize the savings.
What You Bring
  • Engineering or business administration degree, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5 plus years of experience in a heavy industry production environment
  • 5 plus years of managerial experience
  • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and demonstrates the ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of TPM, six sigma, lean and ISO is an asset
