Job description

Reporting to the AVP & Actuary, Capital Management, the position will initially focus on supporting a high-profile System Redesign Project to enhance Manulife’s Life Insurance Capital Adequacy Test (LICAT) system. Over time, the role will evolve to take on broader leadership responsibilities as the primary business lead for the LICAT system in 2026. The LICAT system is acomplex and business-critical platform, requiring strong analytical skills and close coordination with IT and business stakeholders to ensure its continued reliability and adaptability.

Capital Management, part of the Actuarial function, oversees the company’s global capital policy and performance. In collaboration with key business partners, the team ensures the company maintains a strong LICAT capital position and meets regulatory, rating agency, and internal expectations. Responsibilities include Canadian capital regulatory filings to OSFI and senior management reporting on various aspects of capital.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform user acceptance tests on the functionalities in scope of the System Redesign Project
  • Collaborate with IT developers and business users to clarify system requirements for the System Redesign Project
  • Support quarterly production of the Interest Rate Risk Base Solvency Buffer, including review of business unit submissions, analysis of results, and resolution of system issues
  • Oversee the LICAT system’s performance during quarter-end to ensure smooth data flow and timely regulatory reporting
  • Ensure business controls are appropriately adapted to system changes and respond to requests from internal and external auditors
  • Act as the primary liaison between Capital Management and IT teams for LICAT system maintenance, bug fixes, and future enhancements as business needs and OSFI’s LICAT requirements evolve
  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to develop innovative solutions that further automate Capital Management’s production process
Required Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, especially when managing large amounts of information
  • Effective time management and ability to deliver high quality results under tight deadlines
  • Sound professional judgement and a proactive mindset for identifying efficiency opportunities
  • Proven collaboration skills within/across teams and functions
  • Experience representing business needs in technical discussions with IT partners
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Excel, SQL queries, AXIS, PowerBI, and QlikView is an asset
  • Actuarial designation (ACIA / ASA) and familiarity with LICAT are beneficial

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,250.00 CAD - $155,250.00 CAD
