Agency Funds provide a source of securities inventory and liquidity for the bank. They provide funding and play an important role in Scotiabank’s ability to provide prime brokerage services and foreign exchange services to clients. As a Manager, you are responsible for developing and maintaining reports and tools to analyze a large volume of data used in credit adjudication. You will also facilitate credit adjudication and ensure that new agents and fund additions follow established guidelines and provide recommendations for credit adjudication.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Adjudicate on credits within assigned authority as outlined in the Agency Credit Policy and provides recommendations on limit increases and counterparty onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain tools and processes to eliminate manual tasks using automation.
  • Provide data analysis, data parsing and mapping and develop automated controls around data accuracy. Transform and parse large data files to feed Tableau.
  • Develop and maintain a suite of Tableau reports needed to manage the Agency funds’ limits and report fund-level exposure.
  • Monitor daily limit breaches, validate overruns, investigate and resolve limit breaches.
  • Ensure that credit applications submitted to senior management are analyzed accurately, support information is completed, and sound recommendations are made in a concise form.
  • Develop a high degree of industry knowledge/expertise and ensure the ongoing quality of the credit portfolio through the review of industry publications, the assessment of monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages and discussions with applicable banking officers.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and control risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
  • Work experience with traded products and securities financing transactions.
  • Expertise in analyzing large data sets; must possess strong structured data management, and be proficient with SQL, Python, and VBA.
  • Experience in Tableau or PowerBI development.
  • Interest in credit analysis and understanding of the macroeconomic environment in major developed and emerging markets.
  • Understanding of securities borrowing/lending and repo transactions, derivative products, equities, foreign exchange products.
  • Knowledge of legal documentation (ISDA, GMSLA, GMRA, etc). Working knowledge of the accounting and regulatory environments relating to the financial services industries.
  • Ability to make decisions and appropriate recommendations to senior/executive management and effectively support those recommendations.
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to work well under pressure and constantly adjust priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • University degree in business, management information systems, financial mathematics, computer science or engineering. MBA, CFA, GARP or FRM designations also considered an asset.
