Boehringer Ingelheim Canada is seeking a Manager Field Based Medicine to lead and develop the MSL team within the therapeutic area, aligning with IBP and ICPs and serving as a field extension of Medical Affairs. You will recruit, coach and manage the FBM team, oversee budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive multi-channel medical initiatives across regions of Canada.

A Doctorate or MSc with clinical experience is required, with 3–5 years pharma/MSL background and strong communication

Job description

Manager Field Based Medicine (FBM) is responsible for leading and managing MSL team within therapeutic area.

The primary responsibilities of the Manger FBM are regional implementation of activities that support the TA Scientific Objectives specified in IBP and ICPs. Ensures that the FBM team act as a field extension of Medical Affairs: engages in appropriate scientific exchange with Health Care Professionals (HCPs), provides support for BI clinical trials, serves as a scientific and educational resource to HCPs and provides scientific support to commercial customer facing teams.

Manager FBM leads recruitment of new staff, coach, develop, motivate, manage and monitor performance of the FBM team.

Responsibilities
Business integration
  • Represent the FBM team at the cross-functional brand teams and ensure understanding of Medical Affairs activities in the development of the ICPs. Ensure that the FBM team's input is provided to establish a strong understanding of the TA needs of the HCPs in the regions across the country.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of multi channel Medical Affairs initiatives based on customer engagement preferences, insights on customer needs, and medical objectives. Ensure that the customer centric engagements are orchestrated in collaboration with cross-functional and external stakeholders to ensure the ICP, Campaigns and customer journeys are implemented effectively.
  • Responsibility for the FBM medical budget
  • Act as a compliance lead for his/her FBM team via demonstrated expertise relating to the regulations and policies governing scientific communication and procedures relevant to the FBM roles.
Stakeholder Development
  • Review and endorse Scientific Experts (SEs) identification for their respective regional FBM team. Coordinate communication of team's scientific insights.
  • Ensure that FBM team develops and maintains deep understanding of the expert network in the region and appropriate engagement plans to establish Boehringer- Ingelheim leadership with these key medical and scientific experts.
  • Assess, propose and oversee accredited programs regional implementation (i.e., speaker tours and symposia) that meet the educational needs of the region.
People Management
  • Select, recruit, manage, coach, mentor, develop and appraise performance of the FBM team members
  • Support the team to create effective knowledge transfer, sharing of best practices and collaboration between team members
  • Coach and develop immediate team with a focus on learning and change agility, use of digital channels and customer centricity.
  • Foster a culture of customer focus and performance
  • Coach and develop team to adopt new levels of customer centricity and insight driven decision making. Be an agent of change within the broader organization to support a culture of performance and accountability
Requirements
  • Doctorate level Degree eg., MD, PhD or PharmD. Health care/professional designation or MSc may be considered with 5 or more years of relevant clinical experience and acumen in the therapeutic area.
  • Minimum 3-5 years Pharmaceutical/MSL experience.
  • Experienced in Therapeutic Area. Demonstrated expertise in introducing a drug into clinical practice will be an asset
  • Excellent communication skills (i.e.,verbal, written, presentations) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams. Self-motivated with the ability to pro-actively seek out solutions and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and a solid understanding of research methodology, project management
  • Ability to learn and convey medical/scientific information to to a wide breadth of audiences including healthcare professionals and decision-makers and non-medical/scientific groups.
  • Preferred, Knowledge of Canadian pharmaceutical industry guidelines, e.g., IMC, PAAB
  • French and English language skills are considered to be assets for the purpose of working cross-functionally with Boehringer colleagues across Canada and in some cases with colleagues situated globally.

The salary range for this position is from $138,150 to $184,230. Performance, relevant experience and competency in the role is a key factor in driving compensation decisions. In addition, this position is eligible for a variable bonus target opportunity of 15% of the annual base salary.
