Job summary

Capital One Canada is seeking a Data Science Manager to lead a team delivering scalable data pipelines and advanced analytics. You will guide credit modeling and underwriting infrastructure while partnering across functions to unlock opportunities from billions of transactions.

You should have 5+ years in statistical modeling and ML, strong skills in Python/Scala/Java, and AWS experience. This hybrid role offers three in-office days weekly in Toronto with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience developing statistical or quantitative models.
  • Experience with Machine Learning workflows.
  • 5+ years experience in model development.
  • 5+ years experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis (Python, Scala, or Java).
  • 5+ years experience with Git/GitHub.
  • 5+ years experience with SQL databases.

About the Role

As a Data Science Manager at Capital One, you’ll manage a team that’s leading the next wave of disruption at a whole new scale, using the latest in distributed computing technologies and operating across billions and billions of customer transactions to unlock the big opportunities that help everyday people save money, time, and agony in their financial lives.

Your Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the development of software to clean and investigate large, messy data sets of numerical and textual data
  • Networking with various teams to explore internal and external data sources and APIs to help uncover new trends and improve analysis
  • Designing and contributing to highly scalable data pipelines, tools, and products to enable the analyst community to fully leverage the power of AWS
  • Using industry‑leading machine learning techniques to build and optimize credit models and underwriting infrastructure
  • Working with your team to analyze large swaths of data in order to optimize various business programs
  • Managing and developing talent to drive a highly performant and engaged team
  • Investigating the impact of new technologies on the future of digital banking and the financial world of tomorrow
Basic Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience developing statistical or quantitative models
  • Experience with Machine Learning workflows
  • 5+ years experience in model development
  • At least 5 years of experience in open source programming languages for large scale data analysis (Python, Scala, or Java)
  • At least 5 years of experience with version control system like Git and GitHub.
  • At least 5 years of experience with relational databases and programming in SQL
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree or PhD in a quantitative field
  • Experience working with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.)
  • Experience working with advanced Git Workflows (Pull Requests, Code Reviews, Issues, and Branching)
  • Experience with CICD tools

Salary and incentives

The expected annual salary range for this position is $173,000 to $197,400. This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
