Overview

Do you get excited to work with data and lead impactful teams? Jobber is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering for a 14‑month contract with the possibility of becoming permanent. This role is part of the Data org and reports to the Director of Data.

The Data Platform team builds Jobber’s data infrastructure and systems to drive operational outcomes, improve workflow efficiencies, and generate critical business insights. We empower teams to leverage data, tools, and technology to achieve their goals.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Data, the Manager, Data Engineering will lead a team of data engineers and partner with the team’s Technical Program Manager to prioritize initiatives and build quarterly roadmaps. Although short‑term, the role has wide impact across the Data and ML platforms. You will manage performance, support growth, ensure high‑quality deliverables, and scale the team as needed, while shaping technical decisions in collaboration with technical leads and engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Live and facilitate performance by helping the team master their craft and build high‑quality experiences and systems.
  • Support your people’s success by setting goals, conducting regular check‑ins, providing constructive feedback, and mentoring career growth.
  • Develop and scale the team by recruiting top talent,提升 internal capabilities, and implementing processes that improve delivery and collaboration.
  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of high‑performance, scalable data infrastructure including data stores, compute engines, and orchestration systems.
  • Ensure data systems are resilient, observable, and governed with robust recovery strategies, proactive monitoring, and best practices for security, integrity, and compliance.
  • Partner with engineering, analytics, and go‑to‑market teams to deliver well‑structured product data and build tools, automation, and solutions that accelerate workflows and create impact for Jobber’s customers.
  • Drive innovation and efficiency with AI tools to support the data strategy and enable continuous improvement of data tooling.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams in data platform or software engineering with a track record of delivering high‑quality software and data solutions.
  • Strong technical foundation in software and data engineering, including distributed data systems, orchestration frameworks, cloud infrastructure, performance tuning, scaling strategies, and cost optimization.
  • Hands‑on experience in systems design, SQL, modern data tools, data modeling, governance, and quality management.
  • Experience implementing observability, SLAs, disaster recovery, and other practices for resilient, reliable, and compliant data systems.
  • Ability to lead and adapt in an agile environment with a culture of continuous learning and problem‑solving.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work cross‑functional with engineering, product, analytics, and data science teams; ability to mentor direct reports.
  • Strategic thinking and roadmap planning with experience shaping infrastructure initiatives that have measurable impact.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills to guide and develop the team’s growth and performance.
Desirable (not required)
  • Hands‑on experience with modern data stack tools such as Redshift, Trino, dbt, Airflow, Kafka; familiarity with Spark and Ray.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms, self‑service data tooling, or workflow automation for data teams.
  • Understanding of lambda and/or kappa architectures, batch and streaming principles, and production experience with either architecture.
  • Experience influencing upstream data design and instrumentation with Engineering teams.
  • Exposure to data science and machine learning workflows and their infrastructure needs.
Compensation

The compensation range reflects experience and growth potential. Salary ranges are provided as a guide and include base pay, equity, and other components. Minimum annual salary is 169,200 CAD, midpoint 199,100 CAD, and maximum 228,900 CAD, with a broader range to accommodate growth. Base salary is part of a total compensation package including equity, health and wellness stipends, retirement matching, extended health coverage, and career development opportunities.
