About the Job

Are you a highly driven, operationally focused leader with deep expertise in US and global customs? SSENSE is seeking a Manager, Customs Operations to take the reins of our inbound and outbound customs activities across key international markets. This is your chance to transform our cross-border logistics in the critical US market, directly enhancing our efficiency, agility, and competitive edge. You will be the tactical powerhouse ensuring products move swiftly across borders, minimizing holds, and accelerating our time-to-market in a high-volume, fast-paced e-commerce environment. Reporting to the Director of Trade and Regulatory Compliance, you will not just manage operations—you will build, define, and execute the operational foundation that enables SSENSE's global supply chain.

What You Will Do
  • Lead High-Velocity Customs Operations: Manage and lead the day-to-day customs operations, ensuring the seamless flow of high-volume B2B and B2C shipments. Drive superior performance by monitoring KPIs like clearance speed and accuracy, and proactively addressing issues tracked in systems like Zendesk to minimize customs holds.
  • Strategic US Market Program Build: Spearhead the development and implementation of a robust, compliant, and efficient US import program and ensuring full understanding and execution of US import requirements.
  • Manage and Optimize External Partnerships: Oversee and strengthen relationships with customs brokers, service providers, and customs authorities in key markets (primarily USA, Canada, UK, and EU), ensuring smooth execution of all inbound and outbound transactions.
  • Drive Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Identify critical process gaps and leverage technology to enhance customs data quality and integrity. Lead the definition, documentation, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and compliance manuals for both internal teams and external partners.
  • Navigating the Evolving Trade Landscape: Proactively monitor the ambiguous and fast-changing trade environment, especially within the US, to anticipate changes in customs policies and develop viable, cost-effective solutions to mitigate operational impact for stakeholders.
  • Empower and Develop a High-Performing Team: Lead hiring, onboarding, and development for the Customs Operations team (including an Operational Team Lead and Customs Coordinators). Provide consistent coaching, conduct performance reviews, and deliver regular, targeted training sessions to your team and key cross‑functional partners (e.g., Procurement, Logistics)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in a United States trade compliance, supply chain, or logistics role.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership and people management experience.
  • US and Canada Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with large data sets and possess advanced knowledge of Excel and/or Google Sheets.
