Job description

Come make your difference in communities across Canada, where authenticity, trust and making connections is valued – as we shape the future of Canadian retail, together. Our unique position as one of the country's largest employers, coupled with our commitment to positively impact the lives of all Canadians, provides our colleagues a range of opportunities and experiences to help Canadians Live Life Well®.

At Loblaw Companies Limited, we succeed through collaboration and commitment and set a high bar for ourselves and those around us. Whether you are just starting your career, re-entering the workforce, or looking for a new job, this is where you belong.

We are looking for a Manager with a strong background in strategy and exceptional analytical, problem-solving as well as strong communication skills.

This role is focused on building long-term, enterprise-wide strategy and helping the business make the right choices to achieve its goals. You’ll work on complex, high-priority initiatives across the organization, developing insights and recommendations, working with senior leaders, and enabling the business to translate strategy into action. The role is not focused on sales, business development, or technology implementation, but rather on leveraging strategic thinking and business acumen as a partner in navigating complex business questions.

What you’ll do:
  • Support the development and evaluation of compelling strategic plans and high-priority enterprise initiatives for the operating businesses through analysis, research, financial and operational modeling, and presentations.
  • Act as an internal consultant and strategic advisor to operating businesses and enterprise leaders, helping to frame complex problems, assess opportunities, and develop clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Work across enterprise-wide projects and large-scale programs that span multiple businesses, functions, and stakeholder groups, bringing a broad perspective to complex and ambiguous challenges.
  • Translate analysis into clear strategic recommendations and communicate project findings succinctly and confidently to senior business professionals, including C-suite and Board-level audiences.
  • Build strong relationships with business leaders and partners across the group of companies, developing alignment and fostering collaboration across the enterprise.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to enable the successful advancement of strategic initiatives, including managing stakeholder communications, relationships, and project timelines.
What you’ll bring:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong Strategy skillset, given their primary responsibilities will be to lead and direct strategy work. An ideal candidate will also bring the confidence and credibility to interact with senior-level business leaders, the ability to operate independently in ambiguous situations, and a genuine curiosity to understand different parts of the business.

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in Strategy, ideally at a consulting firm or in Corporate Strategy/Corporate Development at a leading Canadian retail or consumer-facing company.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, with the ability to quickly understand different business models, operating environments, and value drivers. Experience in Retail, Food, or Consumer Goods is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a broad range of strategic topics, businesses, and functions, rather than specializing narrowly in one area.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage time effectively across a variety of priorities and workstreams.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to tackle complex projects, structure ambiguous problems, and develop practical recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective and trusted relationships across varying levels in complex matrix organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills to distill key messages for senior audiences, including the C-suite and Boards, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong willingness to learn and ability to be flexible, self-directed, and organized in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint and Excel.
