Purpose-driven and relationship-focused, we are strategic financial partners who deliver proactive advice that unleashes our clients’ performance potential.

AMLB advocates a flexible, remote-first culture with strong values and a commitment to community impact.

The Position

Due to current demand and anticipated organizational growth, AMLB has identified a need to appoint a new role: Manager, Cloud Finance Services. This role combines leadership with hands-on management of cloud finance services for a diverse portfolio of high-growth clients. Working closely with the Co-Founders and reporting to the Director, Cloud Finance Services, this person will lead, coach, and inspire a team of cloud finance professionals while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture. The Manager will ensure high-quality and timely cloud finance services, applying leading-edge technology and AI to simplify and enhance workflows and outputs. This role also contributes to AMLB’s client service delivery and has opportunities to elevate client and team member experiences.

The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial and operationally oriented, with experience mentoring a team and a proven track record working with diverse early-stage and/or mid-sized organizations experiencing growth and change. The candidate should be collaborative, strategic, and empathetic with high integrity, professionalism, and self-motivation. Strong relationship-building, tech-savviness, results orientation, and data-driven problem solving are essential.

AMLB is a fast-growing, innovative organization with strong values, progressive leadership, and a collaborative, purpose-driven culture. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the organization’s growth and impact, with exposure to tools that disrupt traditional accounting. If you want to work in an entrepreneurial environment where you can make a real impact, this may be a great fit.

The Priorities
  • People Leadership: Lead a growing remote team of up to seven Bookkeeping Specialists and Cloud Accountants, overseeing recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and ongoing training. Contribute to culture and strategy as part of the leadership team.
  • Client Management: Manage a portfolio of growth-oriented clients across Canada, ensuring timely, accurate deliverables. You will monitor client communication and quality, review year-end materials with the tax team, and collaborate with the Payroll Lead on payroll issues. Scope and billing remain with the Co-Founders, with proactive change signaling as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with the Technology & Operations Specialist to identify inefficiencies, improve workflows, support the QA program, and ensure standardized, high-quality practices. Leverage AI to improve client service and growth while safeguarding bookkeeping and tax boundaries.
  • Business Operations and Strategic Leadership: Shape operational decisions, capacity planning, and resourcing within the Cloud Finance Services function. Support AI-driven innovation and a human-first approach to digital transformation.
Core Responsibilities
  • Manage a remote team of up to seven Bookkeeping Specialists and Cloud Accountants, including recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Ensure successful client service delivery for a growing portfolio across Canada, with timely and high-quality execution of monthly/quarterly reports, invoicing, vendor payments, payroll coordination, and HST filings.
  • Review year-end trial balances, working papers, and financial statements before handing off to AMLB's Tax team.
  • Monitor and elevate client communication quality, identify gaps, and coach team members on service excellence. Flag potential scope expansions for pricing review.
  • Stay informed on regulatory and technical accounting changes (e.g., CSRS 4200, CSQM) and update client service standards accordingly.
  • Resolve payroll-related issues by coordinating with the Payroll Lead and clients; payroll execution is out of scope, but issue resolution remains within scope.
  • Support and participate in client advisory work, including leading ad hoc financial projects outside current service scope when needed.
  • Partner with the Tech & Operations Specialist to identify and implement process improvements in client service workflows, documentation, and SOPs.
  • Advance AI adoption within the team, with access to tools such as ChatGPT Plus and ongoing AI learning support.
  • Deliver training and mentoring to the team on technical and non-technical topics to enhance performance and learning.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Experience & Background: At least five years in a multi-client accounting environment, ideally within a cloud accounting business or virtual CFO practice. Direct experience managing bookkeeping and accounting teams supporting multiple clients, with exposure to diverse portfolios; client advisory experience is a plus.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor remote teams, including hiring, onboarding, and performance coaching in an inclusive style.
  • Client-Facing Skills: Ability to manage multiple client relationships, oversee deliverables, and address scope creep; comfortable representing the business at a senior level in client interactions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with cloud-based tools (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero, Dext, WagePoint); ability to adapt processes using digital tools; payroll oversight experience is a plus but not required.
  • AI and Innovation Orientation: Curious and forward-looking, eager to explore AI to enhance service delivery and operations; committed to ongoing learning.
  • Communication & Judgement: Excellent written and verbal communication; strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Education & Credentials: CPA preferred or equivalent experience; bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field required.
  • Work Environment Fit: Thrives in remote-first, fast-paced, entrepreneurial settings; self-motivated, disciplined, and resilient; remote work from anywhere in Canada (Co-founders based in Toronto).
The Attractions
  • Competitive compensation up to 126,000 CAD (including bonus).
  • Comprehensive benefits package including long-term disability, critical illness, cell phone allowance, new laptop, and a $500 home office setup contribution.
  • Autonomy to lead a team and contribute to the growth of an innovative organization with a strong growth mandate.
  • Trust-based culture with remote work flexibility, flexible hours, and Fridays off half-days in August.
  • Opportunity to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with performance bonuses and ongoing professional development.
