Job description

The Manager of Business Development and Events will lead the planning, coordination, licensing, operational delivery, and strategic growth of events and programming across Build Nova Scotia properties and event sites. This includes the Halifax waterfront, Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Truro, Open Hearth Park in Sydney, Lunenburg waterfront, Bedford waterfront, Peggy's Cove and other sites as added to Build Nova Scotia's portfolio.

In addition, the Manager of Business Development and Events will be responsible for the safe and successful execution of events, festivals, activations, and public programming initiatives that support tourism, community engagement, economic development, and increased benefit to Nova Scotians.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience as a business manager, property manager or related tourism/hospitality event experience
• Post-secondary education in Hospitality, Business or Marketing, is strongly preferred
• Strong business and marketing acumen with an emphasis on quality of experience, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and fiscal responsibility
• Previous experience leading and managing teams would be a significant asset
• Proven experience coordinating business development and/or vendor and event activities
• Outstanding computer literacy, specifically with Office 365, and the ability to learn new software and systems quickly
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple deadlines
• Critical thinking along with strong problem-solving skills
• A positive and driven leader who can work effectively with others and independently

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Business Development Opportunity documents which relate to both long-term tenancies and annual or one-time events
• Lead development and evolution of Business Development Opportunity processes
• Lead operational planning and execution of strategic events across Build NS properties
• Activate Build NS spaces to maximize the benefit for all Nova Scotians
• Manage event logistics, site coordination, scheduling, and operational readiness
• Coordinate public safety, emergency planning, and operational risk mitigation
• Strategically oversee event setup, teardown, vendor coordination, and site restoration
• Support the management and execution of the organizational events strategy
• In coordination with Marketing & Communications, select events/programming to suit different spaces on owned and managed properties
• Manage inquiries and requests for space related to events and programming
• Work with event/programming organizers to ensure successful events on owned and managed properties
• Identify new tenancy/event/programming opportunities and develop strategies for execution
• Build and manage relationships with event/programming organizers and other related stakeholders (such as BIDs, DMOs, government departments, arts & cultural organizations)
• Supervise seasonal team of Waterfront Ambassadors and contracted event management professionals
• Other duties as assigned

Pay Grade: NSL-13

Salary Range: $3135.37 - $4311.13 Bi-Weekly

Salary Placement: The placement of a new hire into the salary range is based on an objective salary rating process. This process will assess the knowledge, skills, experiences and overall qualifications of a candidate to determine appropriate placement. Each pay grade has established steps, and new hires cannot exceed certain maximums which are outlined in the Compensation Framework.
