Hatfield is seeking a permanent full-time Manager, Aquatics to join our Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (EMA) group, based out of our Fort McMurray office. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of environmental consulting and be experienced in supervising and mentoring technical staff and managing project teams. The successful individual will be responsible for managing environmental monitoring and assessment projects and providing senior direction and support to business development activities in the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will possess experience and technical expertise in at least one of: fish and fish habitat, aquatic ecology, terrestrial ecology, water quality, ecotoxicology, or aquatic effects monitoring and impact assessment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and mentor teams of environmental specialists and technicians.
  • Lead business development activities, including actively promoting Hatfield’s services to clients, strengthening existing corporate relationships, preparing financial and technical proposals, and negotiating with current and prospective clients.
  • Act as the primary client contact on proposals and projects.
  • Manage environmental monitoring and assessment projects.
  • Lead field data collections, occasionally in remote locations.
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight on environmental monitoring projects.
  • Manage and interpret complex environmental data.
  • Prepare and submit technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client health and safety protocols, as well as compliance with Hatfield’s Quality Management Plan and external requirements and regulations.
Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in a relevant field of study.
  • Relevant professional designation (e.g., P.Biol, RPBio) or eligibility to apply.
  • Eight years or more of progressive work experience, including managing environmental projects at a senior level.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation.
  • Analytical skills applicable to study design and statistical analysis of environmental data.
  • Experience writing comprehensive technical reports.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license, experience driving a pickup truck, and the ability to be added to our third‑party vehicle insurance provider.
Other Assets/Skills
  • Experience working in a dynamic consulting environment within large multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Project management skills, including concise verbal and written communication, budget tracking, and proposal development.
  • Oil sands site experience.
