Job summary

TD Bank in Montréal, QC is seeking an experienced actuarial leader to guide a multidisciplinary team in customer, shareholder, and employee domains. You will ensure resources meet day-to-day and long-term needs and translate actuarial analyses into actionable business insights.

You will partner with functional leaders, oversee compliance with controls and regulations, manage data availability and quality, and mentor practitioners to deliver high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the team is adequately resourced and able to manage the function's day-to-day and longer-term business needs.
  • Support functional leaders and senior business management by providing thoughtful actuarial advice and relevant information to inform decision-making.
  • Oversee the communication, interpretation, application, and implementation of actuarial analyses and their results across the business.
  • Review actuarial analyses produced by the team.
  • Develop new procedures to address changes and unforeseen challenges.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the organization's methodology, principles, and practices.
  • Ensure the availability and quality of data used in all actuarial analyses, leveraging an in-depth knowledge of data systems.
  • Begin to appropriately challenge the business to ensure it is acting in its best interests.
  • Lead relationships with the organization's control functions to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the team in staying current on emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements, and assess their potential impact on the Bank.
  • Identify and assess key issues and elevate them to the appropriate level and relevant stakeholders, as well as to Business Management, as required.
  • Ensure business activities comply with applicable internal and external requirements, such as financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals, and physical control of assets.
  • Protect the organization's interests by identifying and managing risks and escalating non-routine or high-risk transactions or activities, as required.
  • Stay current on emerging issues and trends, and assess their potential impact.
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control supported by effective processes aligned with risk appetite.
  • Oversee and lead a team of professionals and the overall operation of a diverse group within an area of moderate risk, complexity, or scope, while fostering talent growth and developing skills and capabilities to achieve professional objectives, support successful projects and initiatives, and deliver business results.
  • Ensure an integrated approach with other business areas and the broader organization, as appropriate.
  • Build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders, initiative sponsors, senior executives, and the line of business.
  • Provide support and input into the overall strategy and disciplinary process across various business areas.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to practitioners, the business unit, and leaders within the area of expertise.
