The Manager, Accounts Payable and Payroll, is responsible for managing the accounts payable and payroll functions of WorkplaceNL and ensuring the adherence to policies and guidelines and compliance with legislation. The manager is responsible for coaching, mentoring, guiding direct reports and monitoring the results or output of accounts payable-related processing in other departments to ensure appropriate accounts payable processes are followed.
Role Responsibilities
- Ensures the effective and efficient management of the accounts payable and payroll processes.
- Develops procedures and processes to ensure the accurate and timely payments for all vendors, injured workers and employees.
- Responsible for managing the financial system including payments, invoices and employee reimbursements
- Responsible for the management of WorkplaceNL's employee expense claim system, as well as the corporate travel and purchasing card programs
- Responsible to lead, develop, coach and guide direct reports in establishing goals and developing competencies that drive performance by conducting performance reviews.
- Required to work closely with the People & Culture Department and assume a strategic role in the delivery of human resource services and programs
- Conducts detailed reviews of payroll transactions to ensure the accuracy of information entered and transmitted in accordance with applicable policies and legislation
- Provides assistance and guidance to the Payroll Administrator relating to the recovery of overpayments, severance payments and early and safe return to work adjustments
- Responsible for completion of end of year T4 processing
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation considered an asset. A Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification from the Canadian Payroll Association would be an asset
- Five years experience in a complex accounting environment
- Experience and demonstrated ability in effectively managing people and projects.
- Understanding of the generally accepted accounting principles and Canadian payroll legislation
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, along with the ability to work well within a team environment.
