Job summary

Palliser School Division is seeking a Part-Time Permanent Making Connections Worker (MCW) to support students across the Palliser South Area Schools. The role starts September 21, 2026.

The MCW will work with school teams and Family School Liaison Counsellors to promote social-emotional learning and well-being. The successful candidate will engage with children, youth, and families, advocate for needs, and help navigate barriers to support services.

Qualifications

• Preference given to those with a related post-secondary degree/diploma in psychology, social work or similar.
• At least 2 years in mental health or health/human services role; practicum considered.
• Experience in an educational setting with children/adolescents.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Implement evidence-based mental health programs and early intervention strategies within the classroom setting.
• Collaborate with schools to integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
• Empower children, youth, and families to develop skills for positive relationships across home, school and community.
• Facilitate access to community resources for families via referrals, meetings, and transportation coordination.
• Advocate for families by coordinating with school admin and community partners for support services.
• Coordinate crisis intervention by guiding families to appropriate services during challenging periods.

Palliser School Division is currently welcoming applications for a Part-Time, Permanent Making Connections Worker (MCW), commencing September 21, 2026 (or mutually agreed upon date). The successful applicant is to support students of all ages and will work in conjunction with the school-team and the Family School Liaison Counsellors at the school served within the Palliser School Division. Experience working with the Low German Mennonite Community is an asset.

The Position:

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement evidence-based mental health programs and early intervention strategies within the classroom setting.
• Collaborate with schools to facilitate the successful integration of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
• Empower children, youth, and families by fostering the development of skills and knowledge necessary to cultivate positive relationships within the school, home, and community environments.
• Facilitate access to community resources for families by providing referrals, scheduling meetings, and coordinating transportation as needed.
• Advocate for families by liaising with school administration and community partners to ensure appropriate support and services are received.
• Coordinate crisis intervention by assisting families in accessing the most appropriate services during challenging periods.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

Preference will be given to individuals with:

• A related post-secondary degree or diploma in psychology, social work or similar;
• At least 2 years working experience in mental health or health/human services related role (experience as a practicum student considered);
• Experience in an educational setting, with children and adolescents;
• Excellent communication skills & interpersonal skills;
• Experience working with community agencies and organizations;
• Excellent organizational and time management skills;
• Appropriate insurance coverage to transport children and families.

In order to maintain a safe and secure working environment, applicants new to The Palliser School Division must provide:

• Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector check from Local Police Service or RCMP detachment (dated within the last 3 months);
• Social Insurance Number (SIN) card or document issued by Service Canada; SIN card/document must be in current legal name. Name on SIN card/document must match your Government Issued ID and Criminal Record Check;
• Government issued ID - valid driver's license, valid passport or Nexus card;
• Child Intervention Check, completed within 3 months of contract start date.

• Copy of your degree or post-secondary transcripts;
• Minimum of three professional references.
